In a real effort I have been writing this article for months now, as not to offend anyone. If it does offend someone, it is not the intention of this article. This is my opinion, and mine only, and views expressed in this article may not be those of www.bleacherreport.com.
As some may or may not know, I do a radio show on BlogTalkRadio called “The Couch Potato Sports Show”. It is what I have always wanted to do. Kind of like my dream job, and I get to live out on BlogTalkRadio. And on here also. I get to get my opinion out as crazy as they may be sometimes as a "sports writer" (And I use that term loosely).
My show is a hit or miss with most my listeners coming in on Saturday, more so the Tuesday and Thursday. And I am fine with that. I also work hard on my show, all be it may not be heard by too many people, I still give it that effort, so I can to make it a good show (in my humble opinion).
I received an email from a listener and I must say, nothing surprises me anymore. And as soon as I say that, I get surprised by what is believed by some people of what I said as racially under toned. This like I said surprised me…then it angered me, and then I sit in front of the computer writing down what 1st surprised me, and then angered me.
When talking about a famed player in the NFL, I was attacked for what was being told to me as something said that was racist. I all of a sudden thought OHHHH NO! I hope I did not sound like Rush Limbaugh on ESPN a few years back, making an asinine statement about Donovan McNabb. That guy (Limbaugh) has said some crazy things, and then some people are making up things he supposedly said, but they can not prove it, and now slander is going to be a moan topic on his show.
Me I make a statement that Donovan moves out of the pocket a lot, and is not your prototypical quarterback. A statement that was a compliment because not too many players at the QB position can move like a Tony Romo, Jake Plummer, or Randall Cunningham, or Michael Vick. Traditionally GREAT QBs are pocket passers. I do not consider any of these names as great when it comes to quarterbacks. I do not mind people disagreeing with me, I am used to it. But I like it to be relevant facts.
That thought about Donovan, is my own, and may not be of everyone’s belief. Talk radio is something that gets people FIRED UP! And in my mind, this was just a general thought, right? OHHHHHH NOOOO! I made the biggest racist comment in the world, and I was being shot at like I have rolled out the “N” word. In my mind I am wondering, "Where is this coming from?", and I asked 3 callers on air, and 2 in email. The same answer came back in 4 of the 5 comments on the air, and in email. “It is a black thing, you would not understand. You are a racist."
Now being married to a woman, who in my eyes is radiant, and a beauty that never stops showing even when she just wakes up…and OHHH YEA SHE JUST HAPPENS TO BE BLACK, kind of shows that being racist, is something I do not think is a problem for me.
