Imagine if you will: Top Gear! at the races. Is this something that we might get accustomed to once the BBC get the rights to F1 broadcasts? I certainly hope not! However it comes at no surprise that FOM (Formula One Management) has taken a change of scenery. If you cast your mind back to the 80's and 90's, the Beeb was the king of F1 broadcasts, capturing some of the best and darkest moments in F1 history (Ayrton Senna's death and Schumacher's collision with Hill) so it only seems right that it should come back. However I'm not optimistic with a Top Gear slant.

iTV have had a running success with the coverage since it was sold the rights for a cool £65 million for 5 years. (The BBC had been paying roughly 6.5 million) Taking some of the success of the BBC format and revamping it. Importantly the King commentator of F1, Murray Walker was also brought along.

Again the BBC have secured the rights however this time with a bidding process (When ITV secure the rights, there was no bid) So it remains to see what the BBC decide to do with it. I'm hoping for coverage in its own right, without the need for Jeremy Clarkson to pop up with his sarcastic comments.
