England demolished New Zealand in the 3rd Npower Test at Trent Bridge, beating the Kiwis by an innings and nine runs.

Ryan Sidebottom was the hero of New Zealand's second innings taking 6-67, with James Anderson taking a seven-for in New Zealand's first innings, giving Michael Vaughan the option to make the visitors follow-on.

Needing 241 to avoid an innings defeat at the hands of the hosts, the initiative was immediately taken up by Brendon McCullum, making 71 before his stumps were knocked back by the consistent Anderson, who finished the game taking nine wickets in the match.

Day 4 began with the Kiwis needing 64 runs to make England bat again, with the ever dangerous Jacob Oram at the crease. As the wickets tumbled around him, Oram showed the batsmen back in the pavilion how it was done, finishing on an unbeaten 50, hitting six 4's and two 6's. It was all over after only an hours play, with Chris Martin falling for 0, leaving England celebrating a 2-0 series win after a wash-out in the First Test at Lords only a few weeks previously and an amazing fightback at Old Trafford, with Monty Panesar rescuing England with a six-for.

Todays victory was the icing on a cake that had seen the England unchanged for the fifth Test in a row and gain a place in the ICC rankings, leapfrogging South Africa into third.

Next for these two teams is a one-day series capped with a Twenty-20 match, and the English team recognise that it will be tougher than the Test series.
