The rematch between Thiago Alves and Jon Fitch was scheduled last week for UFC 107 after Fitch's opponent at UFC 106, Ricardo Almeida, pulled out due to a knee injury. Now Alves has also suffered a knee injury and will be forced to pull out of the fight.

Alves was originally scheduled to fight Paulo Thiago at UFC 107 but the rematch with Fitch would have been a better fight. Fitch and Alves fought back in 2006 at UFC Fight Night 5 where Fitch won by TKO in the second round.

Right now, there is no clear No. 1 contender for the welterweight division. Any title shot should be given after a win over either Fitch or Alves, who are arguable No. 2 and 3 behind champion Georges St. Pierre.

Fitch already beat Paulo Thiago in his last fight and now has no opponent for either UFC 106 or 107. Josh Koscheck is already schedualed to fight Anthony Johnson at UFC 106 and Mike Swick will be fighting Dan Hardy at UFC 105.
