The
Jaguars had their morning practice today, and several things jumped out at me. David Garrard might have the strongest arm in the
NFL.
While the passing game wasn't thrilling, Garrard's touch and accuracy were very apparent. Garrard said after practice that the expectations "should be high" for this team because "we know how we can play."
The secondary, including second-year player Reggie Nelson, look a lot better breaking up passes and staying tight with the receivers. Donnie Henderson, the new defensive backs coach, had a few words with several players, including starter Brian Williams, but overall it looked like a good day for the secondary.
Greg Jones continues to fascinate me as well. If you saw him last year at training camp, the size of this man is intimidating. Jaguars.com senior editor Vic Ketchman said to some of the other writers, "how would you like to see him (Jones) coming out of the backfield if you were a DB?"
Matt Jones continued to look inconsistent, as he's done his entire time in Jacksonville. On one play, he'd catch the ball in traffic with ease. On the next, he'd drop a pass with just one-on-one coverage. All the writers, although I'm not going to say it like they do, expect Jones to be cut sometime in August.
