David Nalbandian of Argentina has long been regarded as an enigma of men's tennis, having reached the final of Wimbledon on his debut at SW19 in 2002.
However, he has not reached a Grand Slam final since.
Nevertheless, at the Masters Series Event in Madrid in 2007, Nalbandian looked to be in superb form as he eased past world No. 3 Novak Djokovic and world No. 2 Rafael Nadal to seal his place in the final, where he would take on the world No. 1 Roger Federer.
Federer cruised through the first set 6-1 and seemed well on course to defend his title, but Nalbandian dug deep and broke the Swiss Maestro early in the second set, and he went on to take the set 6-3 to force the match into a third and final set.
Nalbandian also won the third set 6-3 to complete a remarkable 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory and give him the first Masters Series title of his career.
Nalbandian never managed to upset the odds and win a Grand Slam title.
