Miami Heat 115, New York Knicks 93.

Heat started their season last night by incinerating the Knicks. The team's president Donnie Walsh and Heat's president Pat Riley twiddled their thumbs and pacified their fan bases by repeating "2010", "Jermaine O'Neal can still be a dominant post player" and "Danilo Gallinari's gonna be great" to anyone who asked them.

No report on where Walsh asked Riley to dispose the ashes.

About Heat Produced:

Heat Produced will be a series of slide shows published during the 2010 season that use Professor David Berri's Win Score Model to analyze players performance after each game.

Win Score can be used to estimate how much a player contributes to a team's chance to win the game on a per minute basis (WP48—wins produced per 48 minutes) and for an entire game (WP—wins produced).

Most Heat Produced: Jermaine O'Neal

Tim Grover should be proud.

Jermaine O'Neal was much more productive than David Lee at the center position and nearly as productive as Lee and his backup, Darko Milicic, combined.

Jermaine O'Neal provided .484 WP48 and .295 WP in 29.3 minutes while David Lee (.254 WP48) and Darko Milicic (.438 WP48) combined for .315 WP in 47.2 minutes but those two weren't the best players for the Knicks last night.

The most productive player on the Knicks was Danilo Gallinari, "the best shooter Mike D'Antoni's ever seen." Gallinari's three-point shooting resulted in .649 WP48 and .380 WP, but it was overwhelmed by six other Knicks that combined to produce -.820 wins.

Alternative Energy Source: Dwyane Wade

The second most productive player on the Heat was Dwyane Wade.

Despite a dreadful first quarter where he actually cost the team with a -.514 WP48 and -.128 wins produced. Fortunately for the Heat, Wade produced an estimated .297 wins in 24.3 minutes over the next three quarters to end the game with .223 WP48 and .169 wins produced.

Burnout: Joel Anthony

Joel Anthony watched the Knicks score more than once when he was in the game posting a minus six plus/minus rating.

Anthony was the least productive player for the Heat with a -.437 WP48 and -.170 wins produced. Basically, his play increased the Heat's chance of losing at a rapid rate when he was on the floor.

Fortunately, Erik Spoelstra only kept him on the floor for 18.7 minutes. Heat fans should hope that changes when Jamaal Magloire comes back from suspension.

Joel Anthony was actually the only below average player for the Heat against the Knicks. Which may indicate how pathetic the New York 2010's will actually be this season since all but four players on the current Heat roster provided below average production against the Knicks last season.

Here's what the rest of the Heat produced against the Knicks last night and last season.

Q. Richardson: .256 WP48, .092 WP in 17.2 minutes last night; zero minutes played against Knicks last season.

M. Chalmers: .222 WP48, .141 WP in 30.5 minutes last night; .164 WP48, .354 WP in 103.6 minutes against Knicks last season.

M. Beasley: .120 WP48, .090 WP in 36.1 minutes last night; .015 WP48, .028 WP in 91.9 minutes against Knicks last season.

U. Haslem: .146 WP48, .092 WP in 30.1 minutes last night; .116 WP48, .186 WP in 77.1 minutes against Knicks last season.

D. Cook: .224 WP48, .096 WP in 20.7 minutes last night; .043 WP48, .055 WP in 60.6 minutes against Knicks last season.

C. Arroyo: .280 WP48, .102 WP in 17.5 minutes last night; zero minutes against Knicks last season.

J. Jones: .660 WP48, .025 WP in 1.8 minutes last night; -.029 WP48, -.026 WP in 42.9 minutes against Knicks last season.

D. Wright: .380 WP48, .014 WP in 1.8 minutes last night; -.035 WP48, -.001 WP in 1.1 minutes against Knicks last season.
