Please share your comments and send a message to Major League Baseball about their unprecedented and shameful failure to provide Barry Bonds an opportunity in 2008 to play out the remainder of an outstanding career.

1) A lot of teams that might have been interested were waiting for the indictment hearing to know what his trial schedule would be like. Now knowing that its in march of 09, expect a lot of suitors to start working their way into the picture.
2) apparently he's trimmed down a little bit, but Barry Bonds is still a liability healthwise. Twice repaired knees, two months of season to catch up on, and don't forget, he's 44! that's OLD by baseball standards, or any standards by that measure.
3) Sure he'll hit a few homeruns, but he's going to cost around 10 million just for the rest of this year, and he is one of the biggest divas in baseball history. his demand for an entourage, special treatment, and his ability to disrupt a clubhouse with media attention.
it all adds up to something that pushes us to reason that it is almost too much to go through to just get 15 homers and a .330 OBP for the remainder of this season. Its not because he's involved in steroids, and its not because he's black, and its not because he brings with him a tainted image. Its because, if it were anyone else, they would say the same things: too fragile, too expensive, and way too much ego to bring into a clubhouse.

Evan: Your on the right track in your thinking.
However no business person, if there is such, running a baseball club would have waited until it was announced in the media. Barry's signing for 2008 should have been announced this morning if their wasn't something threatened against an team owner who wants to sign Bonds.
Federal court is terminally backed up, and the March-09 date is indicative of someone with prosecutorial muscle pushing the schedule.
Unless Barry Bond's is signed soon this thing is the professional baseball industry's cover up of the Century.

I still disagree and think that the court date would have an affect on contract negotiations with teams. Also, there just isn't the need for him yet. people say the yankees or the red sox need him, but seriously, no one wants to spend 10 mil for the production he'll give you.
What exactly are you proposing is being threatened against the owners? And What are they covering up?
Look who else is unemployed but would come CHEAPER and less baggage than Bonds, and are they being investigated on suspicion of collusion? No, they're not.
Quickly, Kenny Lofton (.296 for Texas in 136 games), Reggie Sanders, Steve Finley, Royce Clayton, Freddy Garcia, all of which (except Garcia), ironically, have played for the Giants and are still very able to produce in the majors. but no one looks into them. Barry Bonds is just another 40+ player who can't find a job because of his age/price/baggage.

How many games did the SF Giants ATT Park sell out with Bonds in the line up last year?
How many games did the collective teams of those you list above sell out with those long in the tooth role players in the line up last year?
Any more questions?
