According to a recent article posted to the popular cage fighting site known as FiveOuncesofPain.com, the Japanese cage-fighting organization known as DREAM may have acquired another great future MMA prospect by the name of Karl Amoussou.
Details are sketchy at this time, but the article goes on to say that Amoussou—who goes by the fight nickname "Psycho" and who also has accumulated a respectable professional mixed martial arts record of 11-2-1—has signed an exclusive new four-fight contract with the promotion.
Amoussou is 23 years old and, at 5'11" and 185 pounds, he is a solidly built lethal striking and kicking machine, yet, not unlike the man who we discussed in my last article—Pat "HD" Barry—this French-born fighter undeniably may also have a questionable ground game.
Important to note here, however, is that of Amoussou's 11 victories he does have seven by submission, five of them being choke techniques and the other two by armbar.
His fighting style is Savate, Judo, and freestyle out of Île-de-France, and with this announcement he could be joining two other world-ranked and highly touted fighters.
Amoussou would in effect be joining DREAM'S middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi, and WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko, which would also effectively add much more "bang for the buck" for their cross-promotional partners, the CBS-backed Strikeforce promotion.
Which, notably, is due to launch its mega TV event next month, headlining its cross-promotional M-1 GLOBAL cash cow in Emelianenko.
Emelianenko will be facing a human grizzly Bear of a man, a powerful knockout artist who is intimidated by nothing and nobody, known as Brett Grimm rogers.
Emelianenko, who has spent most of his career fighting in Japan against subpar opposition, remains unproven at the top level.
The Russian grappler has amazing strength, however, and his specialty is Sambo fighting, which involves grabbing, clinching, and then throwing his opponents to the mat; once this is achieved, he then proceeds to pound them into submission.
As a result of many thrilling wins by Emelianenko in this fashion, many younger fans and also some well-known fighters—who have never faced him—feel he is, without a doubt, the premier heavyweight cage-fighter in the world.
I, however, do not.
In any event, another soldier named "Psycho" Amoussou has been added in the promotional war and ongoing see-saw battle between Strikeforce and the big show, UFC; so stay tuned as the plot continues to thicken with the big CBS event scheduled for Nov 7.
