After winning 9 straight divisional titles from 1995-2003, the Colorado Avalanche have watched their success fade away. This could be changing this year! With 3 games left in October, the Aves have produced an unbelievable 8-1-2. This is the best start since 2000-2001 when they started 9-1-2 and went on to win the Stanley Cup, which is the best start in team history. It would take ending the month 11-1-2 to have the best October in team winning percentage but a 2-1 end to the month would give them the most October wins in team history.

That is pretty amazing since this is not the team they were from the mid 90’s to the mid 00’s. They don’t have future Hall of Famers like Sakic, Roy and Forsberg. In fact the only recognizable name on the team in Milan Hejduk, yet they are finding magic where they can. This team has the fans roaring in Colorado, including a huge win over dreaded rival, The Detroit Red Wings.

This team seems to have that Colorado Magic this year. The Nuggets last season made the NBA Conference Championship with a team barely expected to get to the playoffs. The Colorado Rockies made the MLB Playoffs with a team projected to be in the lower 5 of the National League and the Denver Broncos are 6-0 with a team projected for two wins all year. This Avalanche team seem to be finding that magic in the early season.

Time will tell if this Aves team is the best ever or at least good enough to win the division and bring that Rocky Mountain Magic to Pepsi Center in route to hosting the Cup!
