Well it finally happened.

I guess I kind of egged on the season-ending injury by talking about it all these weeks and it finally joined the party. More on that below.

But first, a little fantasy football lagniappe from Week Seven:

*Sure, Brett Favre had a lot of yards and completions. But he failed to be a good start for fantasy purposes because of these numbers: ero touchdowns, two turnovers.  No one gets them all right but I went out on a limb Friday by suggesting fantasy owners sit Favre at Pittsburgh (and got called out for it here ) and survived.

*Cedric Benson really stuck it to his former team yesterday: 37 carries, 189 yards, 1 touchdown.  Glad I did not recommend him this week because that usually is a fantasy death knell for Benson .  And I am sure his owners—at least those who started him—agree after watching him run through the Bears' awful defense yesterday.

*In the same game, Matt Forte continued his biggest-bust-2009 campaign.  Not that the Bears' offense (four turnovers) gave him much support.  Forte managed 49 yards on 10 touches with no scores.  Sure, 4.9 yards per touch is not awful but how many of his fantasy owners out there are doing well right now?  The Bears need to be more competitive for Forte to regain some (any?) of his fantasy value.

*Shaun Hill lost the starting quarterback job in San Francisco at halftime yesterday with the 49ers down 21-0.  Alex Smith came in for Hill during the third quarter and proceeded to throw three touchdown passes to Vernon Davis.  Michael Crabtree [5-56] had an impressive line for his first career game.  Signs of life in San Francisco's passing game or a one-half aberration?

Andre Johnson [WR, Texans]

From ProFootballTalk :

Johnson suffered the injury in the fourth quarter.  He had two catches for 62 yards before leaving the game.

As our friends at Rotoworld point out, the fact that Johnson went to the hospital for evaluation could mean that he has one or more bruised or broken ribs.

The loss of Johnson could be a crushing blow for both Johnson owners and Matt Schaub owners.  The Texas offense is uber-talented in the passing game with Johnson sucking coverage away from other receivers, but how would the team cope without AJ for a couple of weeks?

Hopefully it does not come to that.  There should be some revelation regarding Johnson's status at some point today.

UPDATE : The Houston Chronicle reported after the game that NFL&hl=156607&id=1575" target="_blank">Johnson is not expected to miss any time .  That is good news for now.  Hopefully the Texans make an official statement of some kind today.

Leon Washington [RB, Jets]

From ProFootballTalk :

A league source tells us that Washington suffered a fractured fibula in the first half of the Jets' Week Seven game against the Raiders.  Washington will have surgery in Oakland because the bone broke through the skin, raising fears of infection.

He's expected to be back to full strength in 2010, with a projected recovery time of 12 weeks.

The talent is there with Washington but he has yet to get his shot as the starting running back in New York.  That will at least have to wait another year now.

Shonn Greene needs to be added in all leagues.  If you own Washington in a redraft, cut him and try to pick up Greene.

Sam Bradford [QB, Oklahoma Sooners]

From The Big Lead :

The Oklahoma QB announced that he’s going to have surgery on his throwing shoulder and then enter the 2010 NFL draft.

Bradford has the talent to be a top-10 draft pick despite the injury to his throwing shoulder.  The decision to have the surgery now should have him throwing again in time for the NFL scouts before the draft this spring.

Plenty of quarterback talent in the upcoming NFL Draft. Bradford will be one to watch closely this spring.

Kevin Curtis [WR, Eagles]

From ProFootballTalk :

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee Saturday, and there are conflicting views of how significant his knee injury is.

Curtis has taken a back seat to rookie Jeremy Maclin in the pecking order at wide receiver for Philadelphia. As long as Maclin continues to play well, there will be little rush to get Curtis back before he is fully recovered.

The MMR will continue to run every Monday morning as scheduled during the regular season. If you have an injury update or want an update on a certain player, please leave a note in the comments.
