Robin Soderling's chances of qualifying for the year-end Masters Cup in London have been hit by an elbow injury.

The injury forced the Swede to withdraw from his semifinal match against Marcos Baghdatis at the Stockholm Open.

Soderling took the tennis world by storm earlier this year when he beat then world No. 1 Rafael Nadal in the fourth round of the French Open in four sets. It was Nadal's first loss at the French Open.

Soderling managed to maintain that form for the next three matches and reached the final. It was the first time that the Swede had reached a Grand Slam final in his career. However, he was beaten by world No. 1 Roger Federer.

Soderling also lost to Federer at Wimbledon and at the US Open.

2009 has without a doubt been Soderling's most successful year on tour so far, and he will be desperately disappointed if ruin ruins his chances of making the Masters Cup.

It is hard to see Soderling upsetting the Betting Odds and winning the Masters Cup.
