Andy Katz, an attendee at today’s Big East Media Day, was able to provide some clarity on the amount of time Anthony Mason will be on the mend.

“Roberts said Mason likely will be out for six weeks (if not longer) and doesn’t expect him to play against Duke in Durham, N.C., on Dec. 5 or against Georgia in the SEC-Big East Invitational at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 9. He said he was hopeful that Mason could play in the Holiday Festival at MSG on Dec. 20.”

Katz asserts that StJU is not overly concerned with Mason’s absence, considering the team carried on without him for much of last year and has brought in some players on the wing to pick up the slack. In addition, the Johnnies have quite a bit of depth at Mason’s spot.

Lastly, thoroughly enjoyed this quote from Roberts:

“Sixth-year St. John’s coach Norm Roberts, who is still seeking his first NCAA tournament appearance, joked that “New York would find a way to blame me for this.”

Ah, Norm, always the victim.
