Tottenham have completed the expected £4.7million signing of Giovani Dos Santos on a five-year deal.

The 19 year-old Mexico international signed a deal which will keep him at White Hart Lane until June 2013.

Barcelona have included a clause in the deal which will see the Catalan giants receive 20% of any future transfer fees if the Mexican starlet leaves the north London club within the first two years of his contract.

Giovani has risen through the ranks at Barcelona, after originally joining the club to play in the Under-15 side at the age of 13.

  • B/R Ticket Guide

In 2006 he was promoted to the Barcelona B team, before making his debut for Frank Rijkaard's first team last season.

In total, he made 38 appearances for the senior side and scored four goals in the process, three of them coming in the final game of last season when he bagged a hat-trick in a 5-3 win over Murcia.

It's really surprising that Barcelona have let him go on the cheap. Either they were out-smarted by the Spurs officials, or he isn't the player he has been built up to be.

If he was so great, surely Barcelona wouldn't have let him go, or am I missing something?

Potentially a very good signing for Spurs as long as he bulks up a little bit. Spurs have now signed two very good players—Luka Modric and Dos Santos.

They could very well be looking at a top-five spot again next season. Or maybe even better.

  1. its pique again. barca sell him to a club which can make him avery good player, then barca take him back, and unleash him on la liga.

come 2013, barcelona have signed their former player giovanni dos santos in a £10 million deal.

    1. I hope not...

  2. I hear that Vela is a better player anyway.. so no big deal here.

    1. I dont think so mate, but then again I would have said that too if I was an Arsenal fan...

    2. He could be.. The Mexican press loves Carlos Vela, he has been hyped more than Dos Santos .

    3. You could be right there Diego but on my own assesment, having seen glimses of both of them, i'd say Dos santos is the better talent. Vela should do really at Arsenal though, Im sure about that..

    4. I actually thought that Dos Santos was much better known world-wide.. compared to Vela. Why was he bought for such a cheap price for his potential then? Hmm.

    5. I have no idea to be honest...

  3. Shyam i agree ive followed these two scince they were 15 and vela has surpassed gio by a little...i still think gio will have a greater impact at Tottenham scice is a shittier team

  4. shut up scumbags.. just cuz u cant keep hold of your players! Yid Army

    1. I reckon you're a spuds fan then?

  5. Looks a good player from what I have seen, although possibly a little lightweight for the Premiership. I can see a midfield with him and Modric in it getting muscled/pushed around a bit. Even more so if Lennon was in there too!! (although I do not think Ramos rates him and won't be surprised to see him leave).

However, is dos Santos, another young player, what Tottenham need? They already have a lot of young players with potential - I think Ramos needs to bring in some more experienced players to get a better balance. Although I guess these players are to come...

    1. Juande Ramos seems to building a revolution at Spurs. I'd really fear them if I was supporting Arsenal or Liverpool. As you say, with one or two experienced players added, they could easily break into the top 4.

Then again, we said that last year too didnt we? Look what happened then...

  6. He had a only a yr left on his contract. He could have left for free in a yr.

That is the only reason he was so cheap.

And its nice to see arsenal fans trying to justify spurs making a great 'wenger' type signing.

Go cry about flamini and hleb.

    1. haha Good point mate..

  7. Vela and Gio are great players, both arsenal and supurs have great talent. Watch out Mexico is for real

    1. haha great shoutout bruv..

  8. Ramos isn't building a "Project" - the "project" started with Martin Jol. The product was originally run through their sporting director, once Arneson and now Comolli. With Arneson Spurs signed quality players, more so than with Comolli. Comollio's position has been questioned prior to his signing of Modric, but his signing only happened, because Ramos wanted to sign Modric when he was at Sevilla and was only made aware of his avaliability last summer and when Spurs supply the money he came to Tottenham. Other signings are only Ramos suggestions and Comolli's role within the Spurs 'football frame' has become an extinct and non-crucial role only there to satisfy the needs of Ramos. Levy organises the finances of transfers and also discussions with Comolli only playing a mediating role. Ramos has invigorated Spurs because he brings a unique style of play and builds his team a certain way. Martin Jol was a confidence man - a man who when a team are in confidence can manage and produce results. A team not in confidence, is a team Martin Jol will find inept and unavaliable to draw out performances.
