In an effort to get Simon Gagne going, it appears as if Flyers head coach John Stevens will give a new line a chance. Already nicknamed the “French Connection” line, with Gagne lining up with Claude Giroux and Ian Laperriere, the line has the potential to be very potent.
Gagne, who has yet to find the back of the net, has played decently and has four assists to show for his efforts through seven games, but, having scored 34 goals in 2008-09, the Flyers need to get him going if they are going to be a legitimate Stanley Cup threat.
For his part, Giroux is the perfect compliment to Gagne. His ability to distribute the puck should make Gagne and Giroux and excellent one-two punch, while Laperriere will use his rugged style of play to keep the checkers at bay and compete for the pucks in the corner.
Giroux has played very well thus far, registering one goal and three assists through seven games and has shown glimpses of the brilliance he came advertised as having. As the season progresses it is thought that Giroux will play a major role in the Flyers success, this move should help facilitate that.
On the surface, it would seem as if this line has the potential to make some magic on the ice. One thing is for sure, Gagne is not going to stay stagnant forever, look for him to get his first goal as early as tonight, against the Florida Panthers.
Bon Chance! (Good Luck)
Until next time,
Peace!
