An homage to Chris Samuels-the last hog

GridironFans.com by Correspondent Written on October 23, 2009
Ok, so maybe that final word might not be something Samuels deserves, but after suffering what is believed to be a season(and maybe career) ending neck injury, it is very safe to say the ten-year and 5-time pro bowl era of the big boy from Alabama as our left tackle looks like it has finally finished.

But what makes Samuels' injury so depressing(as if it hasn't been already), is the fact that he is the last offensive lineman taken in the first two rounds of a Redskins NFL Draft(that was in the famous 2000 draft where we also drafted LaVar Arrington). Now it looks like Casey Rabach is the last man standing and looking decent from that 2007 playoff team o-line. And please, let us not count Stephon Heyer; an undrafted free agent from our homosexual affair from a appalingly mediocre(only in college football can you suck and go 8-5) Maryland football team and would have been lucky to make any playoff team in the NFL.

So how is it that a team that was so famous for it's offensive line twenty years ago ignore it's most important theme? The Steelers still have the Steel Curtain and The Cowboys has it's overrated superstars. Why can't the redskins maintain their tradition? Oh yeah, I forgot the obvious reasons

WELCOME BACK PARITY

Outside of the redskins expected embarassment, it was still a poor sunday for me. I was eliminated from Survival football(picked the Eagles) and went 2-6 on my picks on CentSports. But at the same time, I'm glad I can rethink about how the season will turn out. Now I have no idea if the Ravens or Bengals are good teams. The Rex Ryan honeymoon is over. The Dolphins might be for real. The Raiders and Chiefs might win more than 4 games. The Giants look beatable in the secondary and Philly still has that same head coach that will pull a Steve Spurrier on offense. Finally, the biggest reason why I always take NFL over College Football any day of the week is back!!! And lets hope more of it comes again. A Saints loss and the Steelers get back to their superbowl ways perhaps?

THE LIST

Well, here is my first ever list in RonBurgundy...and Gold and just in time for a certain city's baseball team making the world series and their football team being our opponents on Monday Night. Here are the top 3 things why I can't stand Philadelphians.

1. They believe titles grow on trees

Seriously, this is the ultimate mindset of at least 3 out of every 4 Philly fans. Before 2008, I have had to hear and read all this garbage about how Philadelphia is the most cursed city in all of sports. Um.....ever heard of Cleveland???? Ever heard of Seattle too??? Those are REAL cursed cities. Cities that almost 30-40 years of heartbreak and humiliation have occured. At least your teams put up fights every single year to contend.

2. They believe good players are crap because of one character flaw or play in a game

"Pedro Sucks....What has he ever done for the phillies?" The exact words from my Philly friend at Penn State days before he pitched 8 scoreless innings at LA. I even looked at his stats this season and noticed that his ERA is still below 4. Yes, he's no longer Pedro Martinez pre-2004, but the dude still has it and proved it in Game 2 of the NLCS.

That same friend also can't stand DeSean Jackson. WHY?!?!?! The biggest steal in the 2nd round of the 2008 by far...considered crap?!?!?! This guy was the ULTIMATE answer for their special teams woes in 2007 and was the PERFECT answer for solving three years of ignoring how to replace TO. How dumb can you be?!?!?

Finally, Mr. McNabb. Like I ranted about Mr. Reid in my NFL story. The numbers show that the biggest reason McNabb chokes is that he is given the ball too much. Defenses will ALWAYS stop McNabb if he makes 40-50 pass attempts a game. You have Brian Westbrook, you just picked up Leonard Weaver and drafted LeSean McCoy....USE THEM!!!!

3. E-A-G-L-E-S! EAGLES!!!!

Hurray, you can spell. Cheers like this should be saved for youth leagues because they really question your IQ once you hit the high school level.
