There are many reasons why the University of Second Choice (formerly known as the University of Spoiled Children) is hated by the general population of normal humans. When I think about it, there's not one thing to like about USC: their school, their fans, or their football team.
They are filthy cheaters, liars, scoundrels, brats, and jerks. No wonder they have the "strongest alumni connections" in the world: no one else can stand them.
Now you might say I don't actually hate USC, that I must have some respect for their players and their program...but I don't. I respect them as much as a pimp respects his prostitutes.
I respect that they bring in some of the finest athletes (with the worst characters) in the country (by cheating). Good ol' Pete Carroll's such a good guy—so nice to his players (yelling at Desmond Reed after he scored in the Rose Bowl), such a great ballcoach, such a great character builder (a million crimes in eight years).
But wait, do you see him playing with those kids after practice? Aww, he's such a good community builder.
But all that's when the cameras are on. But what happens to Pete when there not? It's Hollywood—his actions are something he could not even repeat in a confession booth. Do I even need to list examples to make my point? No, because it's a given fact Carroll is heartless law-bending coward. But I will anyways.
Good ol' Pete brought in big ol' Winston "I don't Want Any" Justice "Or I'd Be In Jail," the great offensive lineman from the slums of L.A...I think he was only put on three-year probation twice: for soliciting a prostitute and one for felony assault with a deadly weapon. I guess he couldn't handle the change from being a bum in Long Beach into being a "gangstar" in Hollywood. How did he get punished by Pete? He didn't.
Hershel "6 Years" Dennis is another shining example of the role models Pete recruits. I don't think Pete recruits you if you don't have a felony on your record before you come onto campus. After being accused of sexual assault, Pete took little Hershel out of practice for breaking curfew. Aww, Petie you protect your little puppies.
In 2005, starting cornerback Eric "I'll Sex You" Wright raped a girl and was found with over 100 pills of ecstasy in his dorm room. What did Pete do? Suspended him from spring practice. How convenient that he was the STARTING corner back...Wow, that's harsh Pete, for raping a girl and possession of illegal drugs?
In the next year under Carroll's watch, Frostee Rucker was charged with battery and vandalism. Luckily Pete found a way so Rucker didn't have to miss a game. What a good mentor! Maybe that why all the recruits flock to USC, so they can commit murder and get away with it (just like O.J., class of '72!).
And that last parenthesis is not to mention another O.J., class of cheating '11.
There's no point in going on about all the crime, steroids (Ting, Cushing), rape (mentioned above, Sanchez) and cheating (Bush) that has occurred on that campus for the past eight seasons under Carroll, the list would be too long. Pete "Helen Keller" Carroll turns a blind eye to his players quicker than that hoe turned her trick on Winston Justice.
I hate them—and there's nothing in the world that outrages me more than seeing a USC student or alum who comes walking down the street with their USC jumpsuit on throwing up the peace sign and shouting "V is for victory."
Not to mention the sunglasses they are probably wearing that cost them $300. I don't care that you think you went to the greatest place on earth where the sun shines, the athletes are paid, and the students are spoiled.
Then you get to go to a game in the "greatest stadium in America": the L.A. Coliseum. The 68,000 people are either talking on their cell phone or doing something else not relating to the game.
I've been to high school games that had more electrifying atmospheres. It's like you're sitting in the gallery at the U.S. Open with a bunch of fans who neither know nor care about what the hell is going on.
To top it off, even the USC band is annoying. Their obnoxious fight song plays throughout the entire game whenever they do anything right, including gaining a yard. Hell, sometimes it feels like they even play it when it's an incomplete pass.
To top it all of, all of their stars seem to go on to great NFL success. They really have a quality relationship for creating NFL stars.
Some great ones who have come out in recent years are: Reggie Bush (3.7 career ypc), Dwayne Jarrett (a whopping 73 yards last season), Steve Smith (63 yards), Matt Leinart (5 games, 2 TDs last year).
That star-studded team who lost in the national championship game to Vince "I want to quit after my first year" Young has achieved great success at the next level.
Not to mention the great Mike Williams (539 yards in four stunning NFL seasons) and Darnell "He's in the NFL still?" Bing (no games played), Keary Colbert (332 yards last season). It certainly must have something to do with the great success that their coach, ol' Pete, achieved at the NFL level as well.
Now I know all of you wise guys out there are going to counter with Palmer, Polamalu, and Tatupu. Congratulations, if I shot a rifle at the broad side of a barn a thousand times I could hit it three times too. Even God gave the lowly Trojans some luck in the NFL, and you guys happened to get lucky with three out of your thousands of players. Good job.
Sometimes I wonder if I will ever overcome my hatred of USC, if anyone will ever convince me otherwise: That USC is a good team, and I should respect them for that. That USC is a good school. That USC is in a great location. Yeah, maybe, but then again, they are still the University of Sassy Cumguzzlers.
I think UrbanDictionary puts it best in their definition for USC: A second-rate university for elitists located on gang territory within the perimeter of Los Angeles in California.
Academics are not as solid as the USC grad would like one to believe. Overall slightly better than the CSU and slightly below the top UC schools (UCSB, UCB, UCLA). Admissions are heavily tied to legacy and family donations.
In case you actually went to USC, and you need an example sentence: Ethan is an incoming USC student whose parents gave $100,000 to the school when he was a high school junior. Suffice to say, he was awarded early admission. At least he'll watch some decent football when the fall semester begins. He might actually get a 4.0, even with his mental retardation.
Fight on, Trojans!

Dear Dixon,
Someone needs a BIG hug. Have we beaten on you guys too much over the past few years?
Wow guy chill out. It's not that serious. Are you from Notre Dame or UCLA? Or maybe you are from, let me see...ONE OF THE SCORES OF SCHOOLS WE HAVE WHIPPED ON THE LAST SIX YEARS? There are just too many to name.
Oh yeah, academics are secondary at USC. Right, but, my son's there in Mechanical Engineering and I bet he can spell liars (not lyers).
Oh well, I guess you didn't go to UCLA after all.
Here's a hint Brainiac...when you type a word on this site and a red line appears underneath that word...IT'S MISSPELLED YOU MORON!
Also get your facts straight. USC averages over 90,000 fans per game. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the only stadium to host two Olympic Games in the WORLD is usually sold out for SC games and most visiting teams have a very hard time calling an audible at the line of scrimmage. I hope the fans read your post and get a bit louder still this year I'm sure the visiting teams will thank you. By the way, besides two Olympiads our Coliseum has hosted a World Series, the first Super Bowl, numerous Pro Bowls, Heavyweight Championship fights, speeches by individuals from John F. Kennedy accepting the Democratic nomination to Nelson Mandela on his freedom tour of this country not to mention the scores of track & field records set there or the tremendous individual and team efforts which have taken place there over the years. No other stadium in the world can come close to the history of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
You have a good memory but, it is selective. Those charges you listed were either dropped or the individuals were found not-guilty. The coach sat the players down until the matters were cleared. Fortunately people like you didn't write our laws since in your mind accusations are convictions.
By the way OJ Mayo played basketball. And I think it is better to wait and ascertain the facts about Reggie Bush before any judgments are past. If the school is found guilty of any wrong doings they will be punished, it happened before.

Dear Dixon,
Here is the remainder of my comment which somehow was not posted...
Coach Carroll works whether the cameras are on or off. In a very short period of time he has made his presence felt all over this town and many times it has nothing to do with football! Go to www.abetterla.com and check out coach's commitment to this region beyond football.
Stop hating. Stop ridiculing young men who take advantage of their abilities to lift themselves out of meager surroundings with a chance to make a great living doing things that enable you to sit at home, watch them, and then comment about their activities on this site. I do not like some rivals but I would never, EVER attack the young men who are out there on the field giving me an opportunity to see my Trojans kick some butt! More power to the Notre Dames and Auburns and Arkansas of this country. If you guys didn't field teams I would be down right bored on fall Saturdays.
Now I know this comment is full of what folks out here in California call compound sentences. I know they are sometimes hard to understand especially because there may be multiple concepts contained in each one. However if you read this comment slowly and maybe read it two or three times, being sure to stop at each period (.) and pause at each comma (,) you may understand some of the points I have been trying to make.
Lastly, I hope you noticed I wrote this comment without calling you or anyone else a derogatory name.
As coach Carroll would say, "WIN FOREVER!"
As all in the Trojan family say..."FIGHT ON!"

Let us not forget, that just a few years back, USC was a has been program struggling with a 12 game losing streak to ND. All great programs go through cycles and USC is currently on the high side of theirs. While it is unfortunate that some programs resort to recruiting questionable characters in the pursuit of victory, it all levels out as implosion is unavoidable - see Nebraska -. Enjoy it while you can USC fans.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE IN LIFE??????? You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting. In what world could you possibly beat USC? But then again, you've never suited up. We've always found you with the pom poms.

I'm not a USC fan, and I could be wrong here. But wasn't Eric Wright kicked off USC's team for that little fiasco? If not what reason did he transfer to UNLV for?
Hey douchebag, at least we don't have people digging pleasure chambers below our homes so we can use it to take drugs, play around with prostitiutes and give young girls exstacy.
Yes, Dustin, Eric Wright was kicked off the team and Winston Justice's non punishment was a one year suspension.

Nice flamebait! Did your parents not give you enough attention growing up ... keep the binky away? Yes, I went to USC .. but as a poor kid on a full academic ride in a peer group of similar folks. There is a 'brat' B-School with legacy frats/sorority's that drive the business. But, there are kids there who are not rich.
I did a survey of my friends from the class of 85. We are CEO's, CTO's, Directors ... you name it, we are all driving our respective industries.

Typical Hater! Apparently you were orphaned as a child? Just throwing up every possible negative non-factual statement that your little brain can conger up and attempt to spin it around just to see if anything will stick for your self entertainment. It would simply take far too long to address all of your false statements, incorrect accusations, typos and grammar errors. I completely realize that your hatred and loathing must stem from your denial of admission to USC but with these writing skills, apparently your GED (Good Enough Diploma) was sufficient to be able to post on this BLOG. I feel very sad and sorry for you and will light you a candle at church on Sunday.

Dixon,
Please tell us all you did not actually get paid to write this tripe. If you did get paid, I hope the ND alum association paid you well. This type of blind hatred in a "professional" article could very well keep you from progressing in your journalistic pursuits...in other words, you have been damned. Sorry. Better luck next time, pal.

Let me guess what school you attended: Domer, Cal State Berkley, or PUCLA. Our traditions, our national championships, our Heisman trophy winners, our media spotlight, our All Americans and all of our NFL players are just too much for the little guys to handle.
If I wanted to I could have you banned from the internet! However this is so ludicrous your punnishment is to keep it alive.

You are too nice. I don't think Dixon even attended college. He is, at best, a high school dropout that could not even qualify for a sub-prime loan.
I never root for USC, mainly because them losing will help out Ohio State but I do not hate them at all. I think the tradition at USC is at the top right next to Notre Dame as the richest in tradition. The only thing that upsets me a little bit is Pete Caroll letting these guys off easy. There has to be someone on the USC roster that can step right in and take over for a troubled player.
The only other comment I have about this article is how I hope this guy is wrong about the Coliseum because I am making the trip from Columbus for the Ohio State vs USC game and I am expecting nothing but the best atmosphere inside the stadium and I hope it is loud as hell.
I look forward to getting drunk with USC fans and talking about the two best teams in college football over the last 10 years.
from 4 months ago
Don't believe the misinformation about the Coliseum, Timmy. It's a damn great place to watch a game, the crowd is intensely into it (although slightly less so since the gestapo-like Pac-10 instituted it's ban on alcohol sales). Ohio State - USC is one of the mostly highly anticipated regular season matchups ever, and the Coliseum will be going insane. You're a lucky guy to be going, and I hope to be there as well cheering on the Trojans.
One more thing...
In academics, "(USC) outstripped UCLA five years ago, passed Berkeley two years ago, and are now nipping at the heels of Stanford. Today USC dominates over all competitors" - USC President Steven B. Sample
MoreNCsarecoming

Thank you SO much for that great article! It's about time that someone FINALLY had the guts to tell the truth about that school.
Contrary to what the Trojan "family" may think, their precious school isn't hated because of jealousy. Usc is hated because THEIR STUDENTS, ALUMNI, AND FANS ARE THE MOST ARROGANT IN ALL OF COLLEGE SPORTS, AND HAVE THE WORST SENSE OF SPORTSMANSHIP OF ANY SCHOOL IN AMERICA!!
THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN USC ALUMS, STUDENTS, ETC. AND RAIDER FANS: USC FANS HAVE MORE $$$$$.
If that trojan "family" ever showed any courtesy, friendship, and decency to opposing fans at football games (& other sporting events), articles like this wouldn't be written!
If that trojan "family" did not break into and steal $30,000 of instruments, uniforms, and equipment from the UCLA band's instrument truck in 2000, then scratch anti-semetic slurs on one of the instrument cases, articles like this wouldn't be written!
If members of that trojan "family" didn't spit into an 80-year old former UCLA cheerleader, as she told me that they did, articles like this would not be written!
Heck, if guys like morencsarecoming wouldn't write stuff like PUCLA, thus showing his hate, & if people didn't wear "fucla" t-shirts, articles like this would not be written. And that's essentially the best description of the usc trojan family: HATE. It is that "family" that are the real haters! Every football game & sporting event, they spread their message of hate toward anyone not wearing red & yellow.
I could go on, but that's all I have for now...
Well thats one persons view, pretty nasty too. If i felt that way about a team, then I would probably start watching another one. You seem to know a lot about USC for hating them so much, it does kinda sound like jealousy mixed with some mental issues, I hope this guy can keep from taking his own life, someone help him please.
Go USC in 2008, Fight On!!!
Wow!!
That’s it? That’s the best you can do?
Can you offer any evidence as to why USC football sucks other than the fact that you just hate it? What’s the matter the wife make you sleep on the couch last night?
You know I can handle just about any drivel that people will say about USC. It’s really no different than the pissing and moaning that went on about Miami a few years back. When you’re hot you’re hot and when the ride is over its over…its someone else’s turn in the barrel.
Where I draw the line is when you can’t back up what you wrote. Please show me anywhere where Brian Cushing has been found using steroids. Rational USC fans will concede the Ting’s but you lose all credibility on Cushing and it exposes you just another hater. If that’s the case then I would simply say take a number and get in line. It sounds like you’re looking for a cheap thrill to get some attention. As long as Pete Carroll is at the helm, USC will continue to be in the discussion. I’m not sure what team you root for but it is clearly one those also-rans that haven’t done much to be worthy to be in the discussion.
Not bad for your first post, way to make a splash…what’s next lighting yourself on fire like that monk protesting the Viet Nam war?
Keep up the good work!!

I guess you expect that well-respected USC educated CEO's, professors, filmmakers and other graduates successful in their fields will read this, come to the conclusion that you are correct and come flocking to you for your profound wisdom. I guess the first man on the moon will decide that you know better than him and all of his other accomplishments. The language and tone of your essay is a sure indicator of that, huh?
But for my fellow Trojans, here is some thing you should all take pride in, notwithstanding what Dixon Cox has to say:
http://www.princetonreview.com/college/research/articles/CoHopes08.asp AND
http://www.ncaa.org/champadmin/champs_listing1.html
It's quite an accomplishment to be considered a top academic institution and the 1st and 3rd ranked athletic institution All-Time. Look at the athletic link closely. Don't worry about guys like Mr. Cox. Success and accomplishment was never earned for him, so everyone else's hard work needs to be degraded to make himself feel important.
On a final note, if you all look up which school has the most football players enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame you will see that SC is ranked #1 all time with 11 players in. Just a nice note to toss out there for those who can't stand to see that USC is the all-time football factory!

Haha. The southerncal president declaring supremacy over UCLA, Cal and Stanford is like President Bush declaring victory in Iraq. Laughable, at best.
The only thing I'll mention about the arrogance and idiocy of southerncal fans is that back in '92 or '93 a couple of friends of mine were at a game and some southerncal fans said to their little children, "look kids, there's some public school trash." I guess they didn't like getting beat, but that went beyond the bounds of decency to me. It tells me that the arrogance starts early and at home, though.
If I'm not mistaken, UCLA still holds the record for longest winning streak in the rivalry. Sweet justice.

Its L.A and this kinda shit happens I don't hate them even though all there Wide Receivers suck in the Pros and Reggie Bush is just a Bicep work out king and can't run the ball effectively in the pros that they have to run all these ridiculous plays just to get him in space and still nothing but injurie,White is a nice power back but as far as everyone one else all being highly recruited and pampered like babies from Keyshawn to Mike Williams to Dwayne Jarret all punks so Now I rest on They will be shut up when Ohio State Travels out west and Runs the ball down their throat.

I love how all the SC haters see no reason for good grammar or punctuation. In any case, there's no need to be bitter over that tear-soaked letter of rejection you got from USC; your personal statement was probably as error-filled as this article was. In any case, you probably hate the entire notion of the Trojan family because your community college family was nonexistent or never there for you. And as for all these allegations of rape and such? People always start attacking something or looking for dirt when they start to rise to the top. Keep in mind that other football programs probably have it worse (like Florida State).
Oh, and by the way, your not-that-pity-inducing whining is not going to keep us from winning.

Why was this published? I mean seriously...I guess if you are a UCLA alum, we could talk about the Broadcam CEO who graduated from there who supplied girls with drugs...oh wait, he spiked their drinks. He has been federally indicted. There really isn't point in having an athlete graduate and 30 years later committing a crime.....it's pointless. Notre Dame alum? Last October, one of your players was arrested for soliciting a prostitute and unlike USC, whose two high profile athletes may have been seduced by unscrupulous agents, NS's teacher's aides actually did athletes homeowrk for them so they would stay eligible.
I see you haven't filled out your BIO. Would love to know where you went to school. And by the way, Eric Wright was kicked off the team.
If you want to know what Pete Carroll does in the community...google Pete Carroll after hours. He goes into LA's worst neighborhoods and tries to convince others to not get involved with gang violence and drugs. His personal assistant is a kid with special needs.

whoops, I said, "NS's teacher's aides actually did athletes homeowrk for them so they would stay eligible."

Pretty much everything that needs to be said has already been said, but I will add this:
If it weren't for USC and the great education and unparalleled college football experience I received there, you probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to publish your thoughts on this platform, because the combination of the two were integral in my becoming a co-founder of Bleacher Report.
So in a way, my USC experience indirectly led to you posting your incredibly anti-USC rant. And you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way.
It's almost like I'm sworn to protect a world that hates and fears me...

Every since the beginning of time there was jealousy. The success of USC certainly draws the jealously out in those that are losers. The original writing here is a superb example.
People generally criticize those at the top. So be it... USC alumni and students stand together... and succeed. To those they try to hoist themselves up by criticizing the winners... I say work harder and maybe you will have a chance at success... Alternatively... You could continue being a LOSER!

We must be at the top!!!!!!! When jealousy and envy lowers ones ability to see facts, you know you have hit their infantile ego. Unfortunately anger and rage comes out at the ones you love the most. So as I see it, you must really love deep down inside the success and the way USC has played over the years. Thank for confirming our thoughts and feelings.

Wow. LOL. Many many angry problems! I don't hate any school where someone can better themselves. I only wish i had it to do over again, and i dont care what school it would be, usc, or any other, i would go.
The only thing that i would like to see happen , is USC vs. LSU. The split National Championship a few years ago was a JOKE. USC dident make it to the big game(regrettably). So no matter who "votes" them the champs, they weren't. You cant "vote" an NFL champion, nor a college champion. You have to play for it. LSU and USC , thats a game that i wish i could see.

But as we all know, Trojans break under pressure.

It's nice to see Dixon Cox come out of the cesspits of the internet and post this drivel that could only have come from an infantile retarded by fetal alcohol syndrome. But i guess it's ok if he wants to mask his own inferiority complex and insecurities, a proud tradition of SC haters. There is so much made up garbage that i don't even know where to begin.
Cheaters? Liars? cushing never took roids, sanchez was never convicted of rape, bush was never convicted of receiving money and neither was OJ all you guys can do is shout ACCUSATIONS completely different from convictions, but somehow you crybabies don't seem to understand that. I believe the worst "cheating" that USC has been involved in was when Matt Leinart hired a private QB coach and practiced on school grounds. Maybe you you can cry about that to, i'll get some tissues for you while you're at it.
Anyways 11 national champions, 7 heisman winners, 10 nfl hall of famers, 400+ players to have made it in the pros, i have no complaints here.
PS Pete Carroll is more man in one fiber of his body than you will ever be.

(2) This type of article should not be written on this site. I began reading this site because of good, informative stories, not personal bias. He makes valid points. Up to this date, the luck many of these players had had with the USC connection is incredible. BUT brand loyalty and university friendship remains unbroken at SC.
In my life, I have had mixed feelings about USC. My sister went there (band) and had a great time playing music too. I only went to see one game and I took my family. We ended up watching the game versus AZ sundevils from the alumni section. Big mistake! Everyone was drunk as a skunk and we had an accident: One of the drunken kids spilled a beer on my kids back. I almost killed him. My wife stopped me. Other than - I didn't mind the laid back atmosphere. Anyway -Go Bruins!

Note to the author:
I am a current student of USC, and my sunglasses? They cost $6.90. Thank you, H&M and your bargain prices. I know a good percentage of my friends are here at USC because of the financial aid program, and are getting more than half of their tuition paid. So think twice before you stereotype us all as spoiled brats with lots of money to spend. Because guess what, bud? My parents refinanced their house TWICE since I've been accepted to USC in order for me to go there. If I was rich as hell, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have needed to do that. Yes, there are rich people here; there are definitely spoiled brats like you mentioned. But there are people like that EVERYWHERE you go in life.
Furthermore, are you even aware of how much work President Steven Sample has done for USC to bring them back from the 80% acceptance rates and shitty academics? For your information, NOBODY in my family has gone to USC, and we did NOT donate any money to their endowment. I can think of 3 people RIGHT now who wanted to go to USC, had legacy and the money to donate... and didn't get accepted. Our acceptance rate for academics is currently 21%, our average SAT scores are more than 2000+ (and I'm guessing yours is somewhere in the, I don't know, 0-300 range?), and we bring in some of the most talented students around. Before you start knocking what the school is really about - the students and the academics - do some f*ckin' research. Especially in regards to our football program. There's this thing, Dixon, it's called RESEARCH, DOUBLE-CHECKING your facts. As a fellow aspiring journalist, it disgusts me that this article is based only on generalizations and incorrect factual information.
I'm disappointed in this article. I realize it's meant to rile up USC fans to get more hits, and that I'm succumbing to this. However, I wouldn't be so angry if the article had some journalistic integrity and REAL FACTS to back this shit up. But apparently, Dixon has no idea what that is.FIGHT ON.

Agreed! Over half of our current student body is on financial aid, and as a current student middle-class son of a Trojan mother, I was accepted everywhere I applied except USC, that includes UCLA and Georgetown. I wanted to attend USC so bad that I had to transfer in as a sophomore, so if you are going to write about our school or its football program, I insist that you take them time to write your accusations into a legible opinion article, rather than a blatant hate letter.

In the Good book it says, "And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye?” Or how can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye?” Mr. Dixon Cox I think you suffer from PTSD it’s time for you son to write about something else.

well i think we have a simple case of a hater here. I mean come on dwayne Jarret was hurt with his shoulder and Matt broke his collar bone so why wont you give them a break. So you might want to do some research and what players do on their on time the coaches cant help. Also our new QB Mark Sanchez is a really nice guy although he allegedy "raped" a girl. Every college is going to have problems with keeping their players out of trouable. And for the school aspect networking is amazing and you have to have good grades to go there. So i just want to say dont hate appreciate.
USC, Fight On!!!

Just kind of curious how a few years back, a school could be "voted" the champs.
What a joke that was! Couldn't even make it to the national championship game, but split champs! lol
Too bad the nfl is not like that, then why even play, we could all just "vote" on who the champ would be.
Still waiting on the LSU vs USC game!
