Game Recap

Kevin Pieterson and Tim Ambrose saved England from embarrassment on day one of the third n-power test against New Zealand.

England started on the back foot after Daniel Vettori won the toss and put England into bat. Trent Bridge as always been a good ground for bowlers as they get loads of swing, and it was believed because of the new stand it would swing even more.

England got off to bad start when Alistar Cook inside edged onto his stumps for six. Vaughen then came in and looked good with Strauss both playing sum fantastic shots.

However, Vaughen was bowled by O'Brien for 16. Kevin Pieterson came in and steadied the ship with Strauss and went into lunch 84-2.

However, England came out and was straight away put in danger losing three wickets for two runs.  Srauss going for 37 and Bell (0) and out of form Collingwood also for zero.

England was 86-5 and looked in real danger, but Pieterson had other ideas by batting with Ambrose for a long time. Pieterson finally went for 115 caught behind off O'Brien who was the pick of the bowlers taking 4-61 of 20 overs.

Ambrose then played one cut shot too many as he was caught behind for 67. This left England on 262-7. Broad and Anderson saw England out to the end of day one as Broad will resume on 15 and Anderson one.

New Zealand will hope to finish off England for less than 300.  England 273-7
