Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly keen on signing Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante at the end of the season.
According to Le 10 Sport (h/t Tashan Deniran-Alleyne of Football.London), the Ligue 1 leaders have made the Blues star their priority target for the upcoming window, with manager Unai Emery said to be keen to strengthen the hub of the team.
It was reported PSG are prepared to spend big money to secure Kante, as they view him as an ideal successor to 35-year-old Thiago Motta at the base of the midfield.
As noted by Deniran-Alleyne, in addition to Kante, PSG have also been linked with a move for Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois recently.
Kante has been a big hit in the Premier League since arriving at Leicester City from Caen in 2015. The midfielder was a crucial figure in the Foxes' shock title triumph, while he was just as vital to Chelsea winning the title last season having joined Antonio Conte's side.
As noted by Tifo Football last month, since the 2014-15 term the Frenchman has been one of the most disruptive players in European football:
Although Chelsea haven't been able to scale the same heights this season as they did in the title-winning term, Kante is still one of their most consistent operators.
The France international is sharp when it comes to shutting down danger, as he closes down opponents and cuts out passes with authority.
On the ball he can be important, too, as Kante carries possession forward with intent and typically makes smart decisions when in advanced areas. After such a brilliant 2017, it was no shock to see his form recognised:
Given he's one of the most effective midfielders in the game and was deemed France's best footballer last year, links with PSG are natural.
The defensive-midfield berth is arguably the one area in which the Paris giants are a little light. While Motta has been a fabulous player for them in recent seasons, he's in the twilight of his career; Marco Verratti and Adrien Rabiot would prefer to operate further forward.
Someone like Kante, who would shield the back four in such dynamic fashion, would arguably be the perfect signing for PSG. After all, as relayed by OptaJean, they don't have too many issues scoring goals:
Chelsea wouldn't be willing to let such an important player move on in the summer, especially given the issues they've had elsewhere in midfield this season, with Tiemoue Bakayoko struggling to find form since moving to the club from Monaco.
But in signing Neymar and Kylian Mbappe ahead of this season, the Ligue 1 team showed they can be relentless in pursuit of their transfer targets. If Kante is top of their agenda, then plenty at Stamford Bridge will be braced.
