Kiffin Confidence Condescending When it Comes to Believing in Tennessee

Lane Kiffin seems to have a nasty habit of opening mouth and inserting foot. This week was no exception.

You can call it nostalgic, call it memorable or call it grasping for straws, but Lane Kiffin was asking (if you're a Tennessee fan), or whining (if you're an Alabama fan) about getting Alabama to allow them to wear their home jerseys this weekend in Tuscaloosa.

Mal Moore, the Alabama Athletic Director, said no and here's where it gets interesting. If it meant that much to Lane to wear those orange jerseys against a team he's never coached against in a game he's never watched in person, he could have.

The SEC has already allowed him to do so, it would just cost him a 15-yard penalty to start each half.

His reaction and comment to Alabama's "no" answer, and to whether or not he would consider taking the penalties should send shivers up Tennessee fans' backs. They thought he believed in his team.

"We're not good enough to do that," Kiffin said.

Wow! Here's a coach that says his team can't win with just two 15-yard penalties.

Of course, no one expected Tennessee to beat Alabama this weekend anyway, but to have a coach put it that way about his own team is just another example of a coach that got too big a position, too soon.

Perhaps simply saying, "It's Alabama's home game, so we'll just abide with their wishes," would have been a better answer.

I hope Kiffin wears clean shoes, he sure keeps his feet in his mouth a lot.
