Eleven goals and 10 assists in 28 appearances in the Premier League, five goals and two assists in the Champions League, four goals and one assist in the FA Cup—this is what the stats read for Robin Van Persie's last season for Arsenal.

Pretty impressive, aren't they?

Robin Van Persie was clearly Arsenal's best player on the field last season, but the French people responsible for the "prestigious" Ballon d'Or nominations think that Francesc Fabregas was the best player for Arsenal.

The list of 30 players who are nominated for the Ballon d'Or is out and Francesc Fabregas, who was out injured for a large part of the season and was nowhere near his best for Arsenal, (ask any Arsenal fan, they can confirm it for you!) is one of the 30 players nominated for the Ballon d'Or, but Robin Van Persie isn't!

Cesc Fabregas isn't the only one whose place on the list is questionable. Didier Drogba, Luis Fabiano, and Ryan Giggs are also on the list of players nominated whose place is questionable.

Many deserving players like Robin Van Persie, Gonzalo Higuain, Edwin Van Der Sar, Xabi Alonso have been left out.

Champions League Performance Counts?

Karim Benzema has been nominated for the Ballon d'Or as well, Karim's (36 appearances: 17 goals, two assists) domestic league record isn't as impressive as Gonzalo Higuain's (34 appearances: 22 goals, nine assists).

Perhaps the only reason the committee can give for Gonzalo's absence and Karim's presence in the list is Gonzalo's poor show in the Champions League, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic—who's also on the list wasn't so impressive in the Champions League either!

Nominations Don't Really Make Any Sense!

Edin Dzeko (32 appearances, 26 goals, six assists) from the Bundesliga winning squad of Vfl Wolfsburg has been nominated for the Ballon d'Or, but his striker partner Grafite (25 appearances, 28 goals, five assists) who scored more goals in lesser number of games is missing from the list, can anyone care to explain me why?

Didier Drogba who made just 15 starts for Chelsea in the Premier League last season is also on the list, why?

Luis Fabiano had a mediocre season last year with just eight goals and no assists in 26 appearances in La Liga, and started making a buzz in the Confederations Cup, still he's on the list, why?

Ryan Giggs is a class player, but to be honest, he did nothing special to win the PFA Player of the Year or get nominated for the Ballon d'Or, there are others more deserving.

I clearly don't understand how the selection process for the Ballon d'Or works, if anyone does understand it, don't forget to tell me!
