Matt Mitrione Says Steroid Users in MMA Should Be Charged with Attempted Murder

Matt Mitrione appeared on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani on Monday afternoon to promote the upcoming Bellator heavyweight grand prix.

It was a typical interview until the end, when Mitrione came out emphatically against users of steroids in mixed martial arts.

Mitrione said any fighter who gets caught using anabolic steroids should be charged with attempted murder.

"If you fight with anabolics in your system, attempted murder charge, if you get caught," he said to a surprised Helwani.

Given the perils of competing in combat sports, Mitrione's concerns are valid. But going so far as to suggest fighters caught doping should be charged with attempted murder may be a bit over the top.
