Yesterday Nikolay Davydenko turned in a superb display to beat World Number Two Rafael Nadal and win the Shanghai Masters 1000 event.

It is the third Masters title of Davydenko's career, the Russian took the tennis world by storm last year when he won the Miami Masters series event which is regarded by many as the fifth Grand Slam event. On that occasion Davydenko managed to seal a superb 6-4 6-2 victory while yesterday's match was a bit closer the Russian still emerged a winner in straight sets 7-6 6-3.

Davydenko's victory has taken him to number seven in the world rankings and given him a real chance of qualifying for the year end Masters Cup in London next month. Davydenko also beat World Number Three Novak Djokovic in the Semi Finals in Shanghai to cap off a superb week. Roger Federer and Andy Murray both did not compete in the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai. It is hard to see Davydenko upsetting the Odds and winning the Masters Cup.
