Sky Blue FC, the reigning champions of Women's Professional Soccer, has announced a press conference for Monday afternoon at 1:30 PM to announce the signing of a major player.
Sky Blue FC Director of Communications, John Archibald, announced in an email to media representatives today, "This one came as a bit of a surprise to me, and everyone is going pretty crazy that we are able to sign another great player and big name to our roster."
Sky Blue FC shocked the WPS world by beating heavily favored Los Angeles Sol in the WPS Finals last August. Embattled through much of the season after their head coach Ian Sawyers was suspended indefinitely, followed by the sudden resignation of interim head coach Kelly Lindsey, Sky Blue was led to the title by player-captain Christie Rampone.
Sky Blue named Pauliina Miettinen the new head coach on September 29.
Archibald continued to say that the now unnamed player was "an impact player" and will be available to answer questions during the media conference call. Pictures will also be available with the mystery player holding a Sky Blue FC jersey.
