Russia's Nikolay Davydenko turned in a superb performance to beat Rafael Nadal and win the ATP Masters 1000 Event in Shanghai, China. Davydenko reached the finals of the Masters Cup last year when it was held in Shanghai on that occasion he lost to Serbia's Novak Djokovic.
There was nothing between the two men in the first set, but Davydenko found an extra gear to seal it on a tiebreaker. The Russian then raced through the second set winning it 6-3, to seal a 7-6 6-3 victory.
Davydenko took the tennis world by storm last year when he won the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami, and on that occasion he also beat Nadal in the title match in straight sets.
Davydenko's victory has taken him to seventh in the world rankings and given him a real shot at qualifying for the ATP Masters Cup in London next month.
The world's top five have already qualified. Despite this victory it is hard to see Davydenko upsetting the betting odds and winning the Masters Cup.
