Four Seasons ago I was sat in a Hockey Stadium watching MK Dons lose 2-1 to Gillingham as the Dons were rooted to the bottom of League One and the Gills were at the right end of the table.
Its funny how things change in football.
Granted, both sides have tasted bitter relegation and the joy of promotion since then, but today's game was clearly a David vs Goliath concept.
Indeed any betting site you looked at had the Dons down as the banker of the day, but true to form David put up a fight in front of Goliath, with a few chances here and there, Mark Bentley coming close.
It only lasted 62 minutes, when some scatty defending allowed Jermaine Easter to poke home from less than five yards out, courtesy of a ball in from Jason Puncheon. The Welsh international (back in the fold again) now has ten goals to his name in all competitions.
Puncheon would be the provider again half an hour later when Aaron Wilbraham netted in injury time, to seal a 2-0 win for the Dons.
The Cowshed faithful haven't seen the Dons concede in four games now, but in truth you can only defend whats in front of you and Southampton will be a real test in seven days time.
The Dons are a confident outfit at the moment though, and will surely travel down in full confidence. Tonight though, Gillingham will have returned to the south surely fearful of relegation.
