Former NFL quarterback and host of the 2017 ESPY Awards Peyton Manning had some fun at the expense of Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant during his monologue on Wednesday.

After mentioning the success enjoyed by the United States women's gymnastics team during the 2016 Summer Olympics, Manning turned his attention to the one-time NBA champion.

"Our gymnastics team was so dominant," Manning explained, "that Kevin Durant told me he wants to play for them next year."

Durant appeared unamused as others in the audience laughed and applauded.

Manning wasn't done yet. "And I gotta tell you," he said, "I don't think you'd start for that team, Kevin."

The two-time Super Bowl champion then looked over to Durant's former teammate and the man who won NBA MVP honors for the 2016-17 campaign.

"Russell Westbrook, what do you think?" Manning asked.

Brodie had no response, which was probably best for all involved.

Update: Durant offered a reply to Manning during the show via his personal Twitter account:
