Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and San Diego Padres manager Andy Green were ejected from Friday night's game at Petco Park following a verbal altercation that spawned a benches-clearing brawl before the second inning started.
According to the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett, Roberts and Green were summoned to the diamond by the umpire after Dodgers pitcher Alex Wood appeared to complain about Padres outfielder Jose Pirela relaying signs to batters from second base.
Plunkett noted something "set Roberts off," at which point things escalated and the Dodgers boss bumped Green:
The Los Angeles Times' Andy McCullough reported Roberts appeared to challenge Green in the midst of the spat:
Friday night's meeting represented the first of a three-game set between the two clubs.
And with tempers already flaring, the next two showdowns could be heated affairs as the National League West foes battle through the weekend with vitriol bubbling to the surface.
