Greg Logan of Newsday reports Rick DiPietro had successful knee surgery Tuesday. The report was supplemented with Ted Nolan's comments that Nolan agreed with Garth Snow about Wade Dubielewicz's initial lack of conditioning, but added that he never lost confidence in his ability.
He praised the goaltender for doing everything humanly possible down the stretch (and last season in the playoff drive) while noting he was not sure if Joey MacDonald's one-way contract had a bearing on the decision.
The Islander coach also explains Dubielewicz was injured last offseason which hurt his conditioning early, and commented on Rick DiPietro's surgery saying that the club had to take precautions and hopes it's not a serious issue.
NYI Fan Central wonders how come Greg Logan of Newsday again seems to be stirring up a Snow-Nolan feud & the viewpoint of a beatwriter who on March 20 called Rick DiPietro "headstrong" as he made a constant statistical argument about Dipietro's second-half play but did not do the same for veterans like Comrie, Satan and Bill Guerin—who also played hurt and struggled down the stretch.
The site also asks the question if what seems a beatwriter-created perception will hurt the club with potential free agents come July?
