Ah, Stanford...how you love to get our expectations up.  Every so often, the Cardinal will have a great beginning to a season.  Every so often really means every six years and that time is upon us this year.

On the strength of monster running back Toby Gerhart, Stanford came out swinging.  After dropping a tough game to Wake Forest (arguably due to a bad call), Stanford began to run over opponents:

  • Lowly SJSU
  • Much-improved, but still lowly Washington State
  • A UW team fresh off of a huge upset of USC

But then the Rodgers brothers decided to expose Stanford's biggest weakness: It's defense.  That's a big weakness.  And so, despite ridiculously optimistic talk to Toby's Heisman prospects, the Cardinal fell to the Beavers.  And, once again, Stanford fans get to pile off the bandwagon as quickly as they jumped on.

Let's just hope coach Jim Harbaugh sticks around for another year, since every season his team gets a little more solid.  Have a Top 15 recruiting class shouldn't hurt.
