Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown was announced Monday as the head coach of USA East Coast for their 2017 tour of Spain.

Brown, 76, will be returning to the bench for the first time since resigning his post at SMU last July. He coached the Mustangs to a 94-39 record over four seasons, earning one NCAA tournament berth.

USA East Coast is an international traveling team comprised of current college players. They will hold training camp Aug. 5-6 before traveling to Madrid to take on the national teams of Japan, Venezuela, Mexico and Senegal.

Founded by Guy Rancourt in 2006, USA East Coast takes student-athletes abroad for games against international teams as a way to prepare them for a pro basketball lifestyle. Fifty-two former players have become professionals, including nine future NBA players.

Getting tutelage from Brown, one of the greatest and most well-traveled coaches in basketball history, should be a major boon. Brown made stops in college basketball, the ABA and NBA during his career. His resume includes stops with the Carolina Cougars, Denver Nuggets, New Jersey Nets, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks and Charlotte Bobcats professionally.

Brown coached UCLA, Kansas and SMU at the collegiate level. He's the only coach in history to win an NCAA and NBA championship.
