Albert Pujols Leaves Game With Calf Injury

Derek CoffeltSenior Analyst IJune 3, 2008

During the fourth inning of Tuesday's game between the Cardinals and Nationals, Albert Pujols sustained a calf injury.

In a game that endured nearly two hours of rain delays, speculation was running rampant as to what exactly happened to the All-Star slugger.

Initial reports assumed that Pujols had injured his shoulder, or possibly furthered an injury to his lingering elbow that has plagued him since 2003.

Now, according to rotoworld.com, it appears that Albert Pujols strained his calf. However, a strained calf is not something to sneeze at. Leg injuries have kept the likes of Ken Griffey Jr. from at least three productive years in the majors.

The good news is that Pujols was possibly kept out of the game because of the long rain delay to not risk further injuring the leg.

More information will be needed, but this could potentially be a big time blow for the Redbirds.
