For the sixth time in program history, the North Carolina Tar Heels are national champions.

After losing to the Villanova Wildcats on a buzzer-beater in last year's national championship game, the Heels came out on the winning end Monday night, beating the Gonzaga Bulldogs 71-65 in Glendale, Arizona.

Heel Athletics showed how much changed in a year:

CBS Sports provided a view from the North Carolina student section:

Twitter user Frank Leibfarth shared video of the commotion on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill:

Last year, Villanova's Kris Jenkins broke the hearts of Tar Heels fans by hitting the game-winning three-pointer against North Carolina. On Monday night, he watched Nate Britt, whose parents adopted Jenkins, get to savor a national title of his own, via USA Today's Nicole Auerbach:

Reaching a third straight national championship game won't be easy for North Carolina, but Kennedy Meeks and Isaiah Hicks are the only noteworthy outgoing seniors for the Tar Heels, though junior Justin Jackson may leave as well after he flirted with the NBA draft last year.

Still, the team will return plenty of talent, and the program has reached the Sweet 16 in three straight seasons.

Williams, who has won three championships and been to six other Final Fours, is one of the greatest coaches in college basketball history, too. No matter how many personnel losses the Tar Heels suffer before the 2017-18 season tips off, a national title repeat won't be out of the question.
