Joba Chamberlain Capable of Enlivening Yankees?

Chris HesterSenior Analyst IJune 3, 2008

Tonight's the night.

Can you feel the excitement?

Major League Baseball fans everywhere are buzzing about the first major league start for young, pitching sensation Joba Chamberlain.

This may be exactly what the New York Yankees need to jump start what has thus far been a very disappointing 2008 season.

If Chamberlain can find a way to show up to Yankee Stadium tonight and give New York six or seven strong innings, it could be just what the doctor ordered.

I am not sure I have seen a pitcher in recent memory with the fire and pizzazz that this kid brings to the mound.

Manager Joe Girardi certainly didn't do the young man any favors in terms of match-ups, however!

Joba makes the first start of his career against divisional foe Toronto and perennial CY Young candidate Roy Halladay.

The kid certainly has his work cut out for him tonight.

It will be interesting to see how he makes the transformation from RP to SP.

Will he be able to give the Yankees six or seven quality innings? Will he flame out early and provide more disappointment for the Bronx Bombers?

There is one thing for sure, I can't wait to watch and find out!
