So far this season, the St. Louis Blues are 2-2. They won their first two games against the Detroit Red Wings in Sweden, but have since fallen to the Atlanta Thrashers and the Los Angeles Kings. Through these first four games, the Blues seem to have developed quite a nasty habit.
In every game this year, the Blues have trailed by two goals at some point.
In the first two games, they were able to come back against the Red Wings. Luck ran out back in the States, though. The Blues cannot continue to come from behind every game if they want to have a successful season. Striking early is key, as is a solid defense. If the Blues fall behind early, they are forced to play more aggressive, which can then compound the risk of making mistakes on the ice.
After the loss to the Kings, the Blues' veteran leader and forward Keith Tkachuck stated "We have a lot of bad habits, and when you start off four games in a row like that, you have to take a look inside yourself and figure out what you can do to get yourself ready to play. There are no easy games. You have to be ready to go. When you look back, we're lucky to be 2-2 right now because of our starts."
If the Blues want to remain competitive this season, falling behind by two or more goals is a bad habit they need to break.
