Here are the top 10 high school football teams of all-time. The list was compiled based on winning percentage, alumni, and facilities.
10. Lufkin High School (Lufkin, Texas)
Lufkin High School is known for their pride in their football team. On Friday nights, the whole town comes out to see the team play. LHS has superb training facilities, which is one of the reasons why they are usually ranked in the USA Today Top 25 polls.
Winning is very important to the Panthers, and it is what they intend to do. Since 2000, the football team has gone 88-14. Very impressive considering the level of competition they play.
Lufkin's football program has also produced many talented athletes, such as Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Reggie McNeal and San Diego Chargers safety Terrence Kiel, just to name a few.
9. Southlake Carroll High School (Southlake, Texas)
The Dragons finished once again at the top, winning the Texas state championship. Of course, this is nothing new considering Southlake is 79-1 since 2002, has won three consecutive state championship games, and once had a 49-game win streak.
Southlake played Miami's Northwestern High School in 2007 at Texas Stadium, where 46,000 fans came to watch the Dragons lose their first game in over four years. Southlake has been the most dominant team in the past eight years, but since then they couldn't be compared to these other schools.
8. Northwestern High School (Miami, Florida)
The Bulls' most impressive win came easily in 2007 when they defeated previously mentioned Southlake Carroll High School. NHS finished their 2007 in the USA Today Top 25 for the first time in school history.
Northwestern is a mecca for young talented high school football players in south Florida. The school has produced football stars such as Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Bryant, Denver Broncos linebacker Nate Webster, and Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Vernon Carey.
NHS has a bright future and could be higher on this list in the a few years.
7. Long Beach Poly High School (Long Beach, California)
With an enrollment of 4,750, Long Beach Poly is the most celebrated prep football program in Southern California. They have a long history of winning, dating back 110 years, and the school is always thinking about state championships.
LBPHS has a strong alumni in football, from DeSean Jackson to Willie McGinest. Poly's biggest fan, Snoop Dogg, can be seen at the sidelines of every game. That would make any football stud want to play there.
6. Hoover High School (Hoover, Alabama)
Even though Hoover High School has struggled in the past years, they had a reality show follow them around for two seasons—Two-A-Days on MTV. From 2002 to 2005, the Bucs were Alabama 6A state champs and since 1999—when head coach Russ Propst took over—Hoover has gone 115-12 and has won state five times.
The team has a strong fan base, one that covers most of Alabama, mainly because of the television show. The class of 2006 had 12 players receive full-ride scholarships to Division I schools.
Hoover should get back to the national rankings in a few years. There's no doubt in my mind.
5. Oaks Christian High School (Westlake Village, California)
Oaks Christian's most popular alum is probably Notre Dame's starting quarterback, Jimmy Clausen. But he isn't the first OCHS football player to get headlines.
Since 1980, over 100 football players have received full-ride scholarships. That's probably why they always contend for the 3A state championship game.
OCHS is also coached by the most famous high school football coach, Bill Redell. Coach Redell has a career record of 95-6 at Oaks Christian. Overall he has created a very impressive resumé, with over 180 wins and seven California state championships.
Many former NFL stars have sent their kids to Oaks Christian to be taught by legend Redell.
4. Jenks High School (Jenks, Oklahoma)
"Pride-Tradition-Excellence." Those words are placed on the wall so that the team sees them before they leave the locker room, reminding the team of the 12 Oklahoma 6A state championships that the school has won.
Winning so many state championships is easy when you have the facilities that Jenks does—with two floors of weights, a floor for sports medicine, and another floor for team meetings. The stadium holds around 10,000 fans. With a facility like this, you would hope that Jenks has a history of winning. And of course they do, since 1990 the school has won 184 games.
