Denver Broncos executive vice president of football operations and general manager John Elway sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee expressing his support for Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, according to Peter Marcus of the Colorado Springs Gazette:

Elway's ties to the Republican party are not a new revelation, as Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post and Lindsay Jones of USA Today pointed out:

Given the recent debate about the place of politics in sports—most prominently in the NFL when Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem—it does raise interesting questions about how Elway's letter will be received, as Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report noted:

Gorsuch is currently undergoing his confirmation hearings, with a potential vote on his nomination in two weeks, per the New York Times.
