There have been many disappointments from star running backs this season. Now the backs that are barely mentioned are making a stand so far this season and are really impressing the NFL.

You've seen me breakdown the Top Five Most Suprising Receivers, well now, we are heading towards the guys who take the pounding hits game in and game out. Fellas, here are the Top Five Most Surprising Running Backs So Far This Season!

5. Julius Jones

Julius Jones had some sharp years with the Dallas Cowboys but then fell to the bottom after going through injuries. Then Marion Barber became a star while Jones was released. Jones was then picked up by the Seahawks but was a disappointment.

But this season must have to be his bounceback year. With Edgerrin James helping him, Jones is in the Top 15 in rushing yards with 251. He's been averaging 4.4 yards per carry and has one touchdown while averaging about 60 yards per game.

He's doing good, and hopefully his Seahawks can improve. With a one-two punch of he and James, things might change for Seattle maybe.

4. Correll Buckhalter

DENVER - SEPTEMBER 20: Running back Correll Buckhalter #28 of the Denver Broncos rushes for a 45 yard touchdown against the Cleveland Browns during NFL action at Invesco Field at Mile High on September 20, 2009 in Denver, Colorado. The Broncos defeated t

After spending years backing up Brian Westbrook, and doing a good job at it, Buckhalter is now earning more carries with Broncos alongside his other two teammates in Knowshon Moreno and LaMont Jordan.

Despite averaging only nine carries a game, it doesn't matter to Correll as he is averaging 67 yards per game with 267 yards total, ranked twelfth in the NFL. He also has been averaging a stomping seven yards per carry along with one touchdown.

Right now, he is currently injured, but when he comes back, the Broncos will have a strong run-game like they did back then.

3. Ray Rice

Oh my God, Ray Rice has been a complete beast this season for the Baltimore Ravens. With Joe Flacco killing it on the passing downs, Ray Rice is there to boost up the Ravens' running game as he is averaging 74 yards a game with 295 yards total, ranked eighth in the NFL.

He also has been averaging six yards per carry with one touchdown. Things are looking really good for Ray, and if he keeps this up, heck, I wouldn't be surprised if he makes the Pro Bowl. And if Willis McGahee can get healthy, oh no!

2. Fred Jackson

DETROIT - AUGUST 30: Fred Jackson #22 of the Buffalo Bills carries the ball against the Detroit Lions on August 30, 2007 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The Bills won 16-13. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)

Fred Jackson did make a splash last season but is really making a name for himself this season with Marshawn Lynch's year over for the 2009-10 season. Jackson has been averaging about five yards per carry with 333 yards.

Jackson also has been averaging 83 yards per game with zero touchdowns, though. Jackson has been playing well, although he is on a struggling team. So if the Bills were good, I just wonder what Jackson would really be like.

Another oh no!

1. Cedric Benson

When Cedric Benson was drafted by the Chicago Bears, many expected him to be the future at running back. It turned out that didn't happen with Thomas Jones in the mix. Then when Jones was gone, Benson was expected to lead the Bears in 2007. Apparently that didn't work out either as the Bears struggled with their own Earth, Wind, and Fire combination of Benson, Adrian Peterson (the other one, not the Vikings one), and Garrett Wolfe.

Then Benson was off to the Cincinnati Bengals, who struggled during 2008. Benson played okay and was resigned. This season, things are working out for him as he is one of the Top Five backs in the league, without question. Benson has been a pound-for-pound machine as Cincy is 3-1.

Benson has been averaging 92 yards per game with two touchdowns. He also has 367 yards total on 84 attempts, which makes him average 4.4 yards per carry. Benson is playing well this season and is looking to strive.

He'll be facing a test this Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, so we'll see how that plays out.
