The BIG3, the upcoming three-on-three basketball league founded by Ice Cube that will feature former professional players, announced Monday that it will open its season June 25 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
"Brooklyn has been on our radar since we started the BIG3," Ice Cube said in a statement on Big3.com. "From the pickup courts to the pros, New York’s hoops history is unrivaled. Legends are born here, and kicking this thing off at the iconic Barclays Center could not be more fitting."
A number of former NBA stars and notable players will compete in the league, including Allen Iverson, Chauncey Billups, Jermaine O'Neal, Kenyon Martin, Rashard Lewis, Mike Bibby, Ricky Davis, Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson, Corey Maggette, Bonzi Wells and Jason Williams.
Additionally, a number of former stars will also serve as coaches in the three-on-three league, including Rick Barry, Clyde Drexler, George Gervin, Gary Payton and Rick Mahorn. Iverson will serve as a player-coach.
A few teams are already set, per Ben Rohrbach of Ball Don't Lie:
Three co-captain tandems have already been revealed, along with their team names. NBA champs Billups and Jackson will team up on the KILLER 3s, one-time Denver Nuggets teammates Kenyon Martin and Al Harrington are pairing up on Trilogy and former Orlando Magic mates Rashard Lewis and Jason Williams will headline the 3 Headed Monsters.
Teams will be able to draft three additional players from a pool that includes former players like Brian Scalabrine, Latrell Sprewell, Larry Hughes, Kenny Anderson, Eddie Robinson, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf and J.R. Rider, among others. A player combine and draft will be held in April.
