I sat across from Dr. Ted Levine of the American Concussion Institute.
"Thanks for seeing me Dr. Levine," I said.
"When the study came out we knew get press," he said. "Where did you say you were from again?"
"NFLPA Headquarters," I said as I coughed.
"Where again?" he asked.
"It's kinda like Sports Illustrated, but different," I said. "Speaking of Sports Illustrated, they report that former NFL players report that only 2% of the have been diagnosed with any memory loss."
"Yes, that is correct. In the same age groupings we find the incidence is about 0.11%"
"So you've found no direct correlation between that small rate and playing a violent sport, am I correct?"
"Yes, only statistical proof exists, much like the correlation between smoking and lung cancer," said the doctor.
"So that is 'yes'. One other question, then I'm done," I said. "Isn't 2% a small number?"
"Well, that is only those that replied 'yes' when asked the question 'Have you ever been diagnosed with memory loss?' The number that answered they can't remember was higher."
"Wait, are you saying if someone told them they had paid for treatment, they might not remember if they did or not?"
"I presume that is a possibility," said Dr. Levine.
"Thank you, Doctor Levine," I said as I stood up and shook his hand, "You've been most helpful."
