Rangers striker Daniel Cousin is desperate for a move south to the English Premier League this summer with Fulham and Stoke City leading the chase for the £3 million rated Gabon international.
The 31-year-old has done little to impress at Rangers, and his attitude at times has left a lot to be desired.
Cousin joined Rangers last summer for an undisclosed fee, but it was rumoured to be around £750,000. Cousin had fallen out with the fans at his previous club, RC Lens and was keen to impress at Rangers as a stepping stone to the EPL.
Well if he was impressing at Rangers, then no wonder he was chased out of Lens!
Cousin played 26 times in the league for Rangers, scoring 10 goals but his work rate and temperament often let him down. During too many games, he simply looked and acted disinterested.
So after his Lens and Rangers debacles, is he ready for the EPL?
I'm sure his agent thinks so and I'm sure he thinks so.
My question though, is why in the world do Fulham and Stoke City think so?
Just 90 goals in 337 career league appearances begs the question!
He starred in Rangers' great 3-0 away win in Lyon (against a side he knew well) and Rangers' 2-0 home win against Werder Bremen (thanks mainly to goalie Tim Wiese).
Having said that, his turn and finish in Lyon and his "out of this world" pass for De Marcus Beasley to score Rangers third in the same game, indicate a real quality.
Sadly, you're only as good as you want and try to be. On too many occasions, Cousin just doesn't care.
Will Cousin keep Fulham or Stoke up?
I just don't think he has the goal-scoring ability or more importantly, the heart!

You're spot on with your assesment of Cousin.. I honestly couldn't believe that he was about to sign for Fulham in Jan.. he's not all that great and would probably make a Championship team in my opinion (albeit a top one).. so Premiership is a no-go for Cousin.

I'm smiling at Rangers 2 million profit though :P
I really think he will be playing in the EPL next season.

It does seem a strange signing for Fulham potentially, but Roy Hodgson is an experienced manager who surely knows a liability when he sees one, he apparently things Cousin is a gamble worth taking.
Stoke are a different kettle of fish because they are understandbly in the 'desperate, must sign players now' category as they fear instant embarrasment.
Overall I think it his size that appeals. Stoke play a long ball/throw in game, solely reliant on winning aerial battles, and tall strong strikers are an increasingly thin commodity. Fulham have lost target man Brian Mcbride, with their other strikers (Healy, Kamara, Dempsey etc) being of the sleight quick variety, so they need a different option.
I am not sayng the guy will make a good signing for either, but I can see the reasons for considering him. No doubt it will be a big risk though at £3m for a 31 year old.

I understand your points Simon. I just feel Stoke need hard working players (like reading) and not players like Cousin. Fulham have more scope for a player of Cousin's temperament but he'll not always do the job.
Thanks for the comments.

Is there any chance that you are Andrew McNair from Cumnock? That would be a great coincedence but also really funny!

Cousin is overrated,no question..He has to prove his worth..31 is not the ideal age to be doing that..Rangers get rid him..Fulham or Stoke get him or regret it..

I think so Salaar. Hope you're enjoying your new post.

Like I always say.....it`s all about the money.
If your company offers you a fat raise won`t you become more `interested`.
`Heart` has nothing to do with it. Heart`s back in Gabon or where ever.

S this article is about why I think a club shouldn't sign a player...nothing really to do with money...just simply I don't believe the player is good enough.
from 4 months ago
What I mean is that maybe he was not doing so well cause he wasn`t paid enough.
The people buying him probably know this and know he has more potential once he`s on the EPL gravy train.

Sorry S I think you have missed the point entirely....
