For many years now Shane Watson has been regarded as one of the most promising and talented all rounder’s in world cricket however all too often Watson's career appeared to be hampered by injury. Watson played a key part in the Rajasthan Royals winning the IPL last year.

The all-rounder was brought into this year's Ashes series to open the batting for Australia something that he had never done before but he responded by scoring three successive half centuries.

Since that superb effort in the Ashes encounter Watson has struggled to make much of an impact with a run of low scores. However, he made a superb 100 in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy against England and he backed it up with another century against New Zealand in the final.

Australia went on to defend their title, and Watson is likely to play a key role for Australia with both bat and ball over the next few years. If Australia can maintain their recent form then it would take a brave person to bet against them winning the World Cup in two years time.
