It’s never easy to go on the road in college basketball. This is a top 25 breakdown of some of the toughest and most intimidating venues in college basketball.

Venue: Frank Erwin Center

School Name: Texas

Location: Austin, Texas

Capacity: 16,755

Known as the Longhorns, the University of Texas is famous for their hand gesture and slogan, “Hook ‘em Horns.” Serving as a connection between fans, it’s just one example of how much passion that goes into the University’s sports.

The city of Austin, Texas is home to the University of Texas and sitting right next to its downtown is one of the more well-known structures for Longhorn fans, the Frank Erwin Center.

With an overall winning percentage above 80 percent at home, the men’s basketball program, led by head coach Rick Barnes, has had plenty of success inside the Frank Erwin Center. Since its opening in 1977, the Longhorns have called it home and in Big 12 country that means a lot.

Conference road games are something that no team can sleep, no matter who the opponent may be. Texas can speak volumes for this and the success that has filled the history of the program is a prime example of why Longhorns are always excited.

With one of the largest capacity crowds in the Big 12 there is no doubt why the Frank Erwin Center is one of the toughest places to play in the country. Also, known as “The Drum” for its outside view, the burnt orange color that fills the arena each home game is a sight to see.

With a few of the nation’s top recruits coming in, added to the return of some of their core players from a year ago, the expectations are again high for the Longhorns.

With their annual tests in the Big 12 Conference, Texas also welcomes expected Top-5 program Michigan State to the Frank Erwin Center this season, as well as a game against North Carolina that will be played in Arlington, Texas. Although their game against UNC will not be played at the Frank Erwin Center, you can bet the Longhorn will be traveling to give Texas that home-court feel.

Each year the Big 12 offers the country some of the best games of the year, no mater where the location may be. Texas is no different, and with one of the top fan bases in college basketball today, the Longhorns have a lot to be excited for with another season on the horizon.
