Serena Williams has reclaimed the World No. 1 ranking with a second round victory in the WTA China Open in Beijing.

After winning Wimbledon earlier this year, Serena held three of the four majors, yet Dinara Safina remained World No. 1 even though Safina has yet to win a major. Serena made no secret of her frustration at the ranking system.

Even though the American did go on to lose her US Open title to a resurgent Kim Clijsters, there is no doubt that she has been the best women's tennis player in the world and she truly deserves to be the World No. 1 once again.

Serena's sister Venus was the favorite for this year's Wimbledon title. Venus was going for her sixth title at the All England Club, but Serena produced a stunning display of power hitting to upset the Betting Odds and beat her sister 7-6 6-2.
