Hi
It seems almost certain now that the F1 title will come to Frome this year along with Jenson Button. Now last year another Brit won the F1 title and if we are honest he should of won it the year before, Lewis Hamilton. It is a very successful time for Britain on the race track.
However apart from being British these two are miles apart. Let's start with Lewis. He is someone who splits opinion a lot and is someone you either love or hate. There is absolutely no doubt in his ability. He is no great yet by any means but considering how young he is you have no choice but to respect his ability. He will win more titles even if he is never up to the standards of some of the true greats such as Senna.
However there is another side to him. His attempted angelic demanour provides frustration to many. We know that nowadays in particular you have to be ruthless and cold to make in the world of F1. There is also the problem of the fact that Hamilton is no saint.
I would like you to think back to Canada 2008 when he crashed into Kimi Raikkonen in the pit lane. Now if that was Michael Schumacher everyone would of said he did it on purpose. No one especially in Britain said that he did it on purpose. Also you could say at Fuji in 2008 when he produces that simply stupid lunge and quite rightly got penalised.
However he is damn good driver when is on it and as i said you have to respect his ability. He is very fast but as he proved at Monza this year when he threw it away when lets be honest he had no chance of catching the man in front showing he is by no means a finished product.
Now Jenson is a very different person. He doesn't split opinion anything like Hamilton. Jenson seems to be liked by the vast majority of people rather than the 50:50 split that comes with Hamilton.
It is also refreshing to see that the media isn't as in love with him as they are with others so we don't get him rammed down are throat every minute. He also doesn't pretend to be an angel which is good. He is no James Hunt but he does seem more of your average guy on the streets.
He doesn't have the sheer pace of Lewis Hamilton by any stretch of the imagination and if you gave them the same car Hamilton would in my estimation be about 2 tenths quicker.
But there is one thing that splits them more for me than anything else. Their upbringing. Lewis has been bankrolled by Mclaren nearly all the way through and has almost always found himself in superior equipment. If he wasn't good you would have to question what Mclaren were thinking.
He should of won especially in his early days. If we are honest he should of won his first year let alone his second year.
Now Jenson didn't really have this. In his early days in F1 he never had much to drive with. If you cast your minds back to when he was at Renault he never had a hope. Briatore didn't like him at all and he never had a hope.
Then think about in 2007 when he was in a Honda milk float again he didn't have a hope. Now he does have a good car and he has done well but you almost feel he has earned even more. For me I am happy to have Button as a champion and in my view I prefer the idea of having him as champion over Lewis
This is a personal view and that's all it is.
