Oregon's Ed Dickson: One Of The Greats

The Oregon offense is finally clicking again.
Just like it was last year…and the year before with Dennis Dixon.
So what has been the constant? Well, that’s when Chip Kelly arrived—but can that be the only reason?
Well, in terms of players, there has been one constant, and that’s Ed Dickson.
It seems that for every year for the past five years, Dickson has had the opportunity to turn pro but decided to come back to school. In doing so, he has established himself as one of the Oregon all-time greats, regardless of position.
A 29-yard catch in the second quarter against Washington State gave Dickson 104 career receptions and a new school record. Even though his night was done at the half, he finished with seven catches for 103 yards and a touchdown.
That performance wasn’t even impressive when compared to what he did last week to then No. 6-ranked Cal. He recorded a 148 yards and three touchdowns on 11 catches. He’s more than doubled his stats from that game if you want to count the fact he’s still tearing up the Cal defense in Jeff Tedford’s nightmares.
It goes without saying the Dickson is a matchup nightmare. The generic football commentator will tell you he’s too fast for linebackers and too big for defensive backs. As non-specific as that is, it’s true.
While Masoli has provided some stability to the quarterback position, Dickson has always been a security blanket in recent years, when that position has been a revolving door of players.
As the season continues, let’s at the very least enjoy the high level that Dickson performs at. If Oregon does win the Pac-10 this year, he’ll be a big reason why.
Although Oregon is deep and has a bright future at tight end, Dickson will be missed. Here’s to hoping he has a long career playing on Sundays.
