First of all, I want to state up front that UGA's season is not lost. We still have a shot at playing for the SEC title. We only have one conference loss. Auburn was the last team to go undefeated in SEC play and they didn't even get a shot at the National Title. You can win the SEC with 2 conference losses, you can even win the National Title with two conference losses, just ask LSU. But, I think that this year, you can only afford one conference loss. I think that the margin of error this year is that small. But I say that Georgia is in it still so we don't need to panic yet.
Second of all, I like Joe Cox. It isn't all his fault that we are 3-2 five games into the season. He's a competitor and he has made some good throws. I still think he's the best shot for us to win 10 games this season.
But, I say all of this to speak something I don't want to say. What if we lose to Tennessee this weekend. They aren't that good, especially on offense but their defense is nasty and they haven't been blown out in any of their losses either. Georgia is a game they've circled on their calender. The fans up there in Knoxville think they're winning this weekend. We haven't put together a game that would easily beat Tennessee. If we lose to them this weekend, our chances of winning the SEC is over. Florida is only going to lose one game in conference, if they lose any at all. We could be the one that upsets them, we would have to to hold the tie breaker. But losing the game to Tennessee should put us in a situation that we should look forward and prepare for next season so we don't have a wet behind the ears QB. We could have a starter for next year that has six games of experience, four in conference, two out of conference that would be key for us to maybe make a serious run in 2010. Florida is going to lose some key pieces to the draft after this season is over. Plus they're only thinking of going undefeated and winning it all this year. That would give us a leg up for next year with a new QB. Also, the new QB could give us a spark that leads our offense to a better level this year. A more athletic QB causes problems for defenses, ie. Logan Gray or Aaron Murray. I hate to say that because I like Joe Cox and his heart, to me he is as much as a Georgia Bulldog as David Pollack. He's been loyal and he's the team leader. But Coach Richt has to make the move that will be best for the team this year and next year. Part of me is hoping I'm writing this article in vain but in college football, you never know. I'm married to a Tennessee fan, in fact UGA is 6-3 since I've been dating or married to my wonderful wife. I'd love to make it 7-3 so I can irritate my in laws. But that's a different story. I'd love to hear your comments but please don't swear. I'm a Christian and I won't respond to any of your comments if you cuss. Thank you for reading my article, I appreciate the read and Go Dawgs!
