Down to The Wire: In The AL Central Every Game Matters

David O'BrienCorrespondent IOctober 4, 2009

The Minnesota Twins had to face one of the AL's most dominant pitchers, I'm talking about the Royal's Zach Greinke.

Going into the game the Twins were just a game back from the Tigers.

The odds were stacked against them considering they had to face Zach Greinke who is a canidate for the AL Cy Young.

Pitching for Minnesota was Nick Blackburn which made for a great pitching matchup, a loss would take the Twins right out of the race.

It was all about pitching up until the 6th inning. There was a 4-4 tie when Michael Cuddyer stepped up and homered in the 8th giving the Twins the victory 5-4.

The Twins were just a half game back of the Detroit Tigers and one step closer to to taking the AL Central away from them.

Detroit Vs Chicago:

The Pitching Matchup was Freddy Garcia RHP (2-4,4.78 ERA) and for Detroit, Alfredo Figaro RHP (2-1,5.74) took the mound.

Carlos Quentin homered to put the Sox to an early lead and Alfredo Figaro was replaced with Fu-Ti Ne.

Mark Kotsay scored in the second. Carlos Quentin scored in the 3rd after after a double to right field from Alex Rios. Once again Alex Rios drove in Paul Konerko in the 5th after a single to right field.

The White sox had only given up one run. It is now a tie in the AL Central.
