First of all, before you guys diss on energy bars, these things are legit. Let me tell you first-hand, as a guy who eats them no matter the time of day: the taste and health reasons make these a quality purchase.

Moreover, if you need that extra boost of energy before a game, these bars are the way to go. Or are they? Here we go.

5- PowerBar Energize

It does just what the name says: gives you energy. What a better way to start a game than to have a leg-up on the competition. This bar has a “2:1 ratio of glucose and fructose carbohydrate sources,” according to its website.

Listen, I’m no scientist, but I have tried this bar before going on a run, and it seemed to kick me into gear. One bar packs a whopping 9 grams of protein, and 230 calories to give you what you need when you’re running.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying that it is a meal-replacement but it can certainly hold you over until you have run that 5K.

4- Balance Bar Original

Holy cow, these bars are tasty! That’s beside the point, however, at least as far as this list is concerned. My favorite is the peanut butter, but once again, that’s beside the point.

Each one of these bars, which can easily be consumed in 5-6 bites, has 14 grams of protein. At 250 calories, it will give you enough energy to keep going and tough out that cramp.

Try one for yourself, but they taste more like a candy bar to me.

3- Clif Builder Bar

This is admittedly, at least as far as I am concerned, the worst tasting out of the five on the list. It does however; pack 20 grams of protein into a small bar, which is very impressive.

If you are counting your saturated fat, you may want to steer clear of this bar, as it contains 23% of your daily value. All in all, if you are maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you can’t really go wrong with this bar.

 

2- Snickers Marathon

Talks about a bar jam-packed with protein, Snickers Marathon bars have 21 grams! If you loved Snickers bars, you will surely love these! They have that candy taste, while giving you the nutritious needs of other energy bars.

The bars are also “low Glycernic Index foods”, which allow the body to possess energy for longer periods of time. The flavors are also what make them great, including my personal favorite, Double Fudge Brownie.

 

1- Banana

It isn’t one of those energy bars, that’s right, it’s a banana. Not only are they all natural, but they pack flavor and nutritious goodies into your body with every bite.

With more potassium that one would ever need, bananas can help you out just before you go to tip-off. And we all have heard that potassium is good for you, right Rafael Nadal?
