At the 2016 edition of WWE's Battleground pay-per-view, John Cena will team up with Enzo Amore and Big Cass to compete against AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson—collectively known as The Club—in a six-man tag team match.
It was during last month's Money in the Bank PPV that Styles used the other members of The Club to steal a victory from Cena, but the rematch is considerably different, with four additional wrestlers involved in the matchup.
Here are the best booking options for Cena at Battleground.
John Cena Pins Anderson or Gallows
The best booking option for Cena at Battleground would be to earn a clean pinfall for his team on Anderson or Gallows. After taking the loss at Money in the Bank, winning at the July PPV would appease WWE's desire to keep Cena looking strong.
While Cena winning the match would give him a victory back after losing last month, this outcome would also protect Styles from taking an unnecessary loss after pinning Cena at Money in the Bank.
After Styles used help from his friends to earn the win over Cena, giving the 15-time world champion the pin in the six-man tag match would be the perfect way to book both men as winners in the feud.
With each wrestler earning a win—assuming Cena stands tall at Battleground—the stage would be set for a third match at SummerSlam. While all signs point to Cena burying Styles and earning the victory, this would be the perfect opportunity to put Styles over in a marquee moment, as Cena did with Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam 2013.
Styles needs all the credibility he can get as he continues to get over with the WWE Universe, and a career-defining win over Cena at the second-biggest PPV of the year would be best for business.
AJ Styles Pins Cena After Interference
One of the most intriguing options for Sunday’s Battleground would be The Club distracting Cena and having Styles steal yet another pinfall victory.
Not only would it give Styles yet another win over Cena, but it would also add serious credibility to the heel stature of The Club in WWE. At times, Anderson and Gallows have looked like goons because of poor booking, but helping Styles pin Cena again would assist the entire group in becoming three of the top heels in the company.
With Styles earning two victories in this storyline, the hope would be that the feud between Cena and Styles comes to an end after they're drafted to different brands during the WWE draft on July 19.
Separating Cena and Styles may be the only way this angle doesn't end with Cena standing tall.
